Good -Life Devotional: DIVINE JUSTICE FOR THE SLAIN
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Scripture reveals that God is not indifferent to bloodshed, oppression, or silent complicity. In Judges 9:22–24, 54–57, Abimelech seized power through the murder of Gideon’s sons—men who were rightful heirs. Yet God did not overlook this injustice. A curse arose, and divine judgment fell not only on Abimelech but also on the men of Shechem who supported him. This reminds us that those who aid, approve, or remain silent in the face of evil share in its consequences.
God’s justice is certain and righteous. 2 Thessalonians 1:6–8 (AMP) declares that it is a just thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict His people, and He will be revealed with His mighty angels in flaming fire, bringing judgment. This truth assures believers that persecution and injustice will not have the final word.
The Bible also warns against passive complicity. Proverbs 31:8–9 commands us to “open your mouth for the mute… and administer justice for the afflicted and needy.” Silence in the face of oppression is not neutrality—it is participation. Proverbs 21:13 further warns that those who shut their ears to the cry of the poor will themselves cry out and not be answered. God expects His people to stand for truth and defend the vulnerable.
Moreover, Revelation 21:8 reminds us that murderers and those who persist in wickedness will not inherit God’s kingdom. Likewise, Psalm 9:12 assures us that God “does not forget the cry of the afflicted.”
Therefore, let us walk in righteousness—rejecting oppression, speaking for the voiceless, and trusting that God, the righteous Judge, will bring justice in His perfect time.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome oppression.
