 GOD WILL DELIVER YOU FROM THE PROUD AND LOFTY ONE

“Plead my cause, O LORD, with those who strive with me… Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help” (Psalm 35:1–2). David understood that the proud and lofty often appear unstoppable. They boast in strength, influence, and past victories, yet the Lord remains the defender of the humble. Psalm 35:10 declares, “All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him?” 

   God specializes in rescuing those overwhelmed by arrogant power. A clear example appears when the king of Assyria threatened Jerusalem. He had a larger army, vast resources, and many trophies from conquered nations. In his pride he claimed his campaign was even ordained by God (2 Kings 18:20, 28). This is how oppressive leaders often behave—using religion as a tool to manipulate citizens.   They employ voices and influencers to weaken faith, urging people not to trust God (2 Kings 18:29–30). But arrogance never intimidates the Lord.

    King Hezekiah turned to God in prayer, refusing to surrender to fear. The Lord responded decisively. “Then the angel of the LORD went out, and smote… the camp of the Assyrians” (2 Kings 19:35). The proud fled, and their power collapsed overnight. This fulfills God’s pattern: “The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed” (Psalm 9:9). “He disappointeth the devices of the crafty” (Job 5:12). “The battle is not yours, but God’s” (2 Chronicles 20:15).

Therefore, trust God always. Psalm 62:7–8 reminds us that He alone is our salvation and refuge. When the proud rise, do not panic. Pray, stand firm, and rely on God. He still delivers the weak from the strong and the humble from the lofty.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome oppresion.
