 BREAKING EVIL FAMILY PATTERNS

Titus 1:12 -14 "One of themselves,   even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians   are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.  This  witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply,  that they may be sound in the faith;  Not giving  heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of  men, that turn from the truth." 

     The church in Crete was in disarray and the apostle Paul assigned Titus to go and put things in order . On investigation it was discovered the church suffered from a vicious cycle of evil family  patterns. They were not enjoying the fruits of the salvation experience . An example of evil family patterns is like that of King David who defiled Uriah's wife ,murdered him and his son Absalom murdered his brother Amnon (2Sam13) dethroned him and defiled his concubines openly (2Samuel16). His son Amnon defiled his sister Tamar (2Sam.13) and so on yet David was the anointed of the Lord. 

   Many christians suffer evil family patterns ( repeated deaths. Business and Marital fails , insanity , diseases, addictions , poverty etc among immediate and extended family members ) and they are quick to attribute these to ancestral curses , witchcraft attacks , covenants and other causes described in the scriptures as Jewish myths and the commands of people who have turned away from the truth."Titus 1:14 NLT.

     The  Cretan church was a victim of a culture of laziness and deception handed down from generation to generation . There are families where laziness is rewarded and hard work looked down upon contrary to God's word  “Those unwilling to work will not get to eat.” 2 Thes3:10 . Laziness ,strife and gossips are condemned in the book of Proverbs they result in poverty ,ill health, marital crisis , failed relationships, wars , pandemics and other catastrophes . 

   Some children were  trained to be liars by their parents (Genesis27:1-46) Telling a child to lie on your behalf is a preparation for business, financial ,marital crisis  . The scriptures says "Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation."Proverbs 3:3‭-‬4 NLT , the anointing of God's favour requires being loyal, truthful and kind to people: this was lacking among the Cretans .

   Instead of developing these virtues through the Holy Spirit they rather chose to attribute their misfortunes to witches , curses ,covenants  as it is reminiscent of many African Churchgoers with endless fastings, deliverances, conventions without any improvement in their security , economy with increased failure in the family structure and corruption in the society.

     The Cretans were known for lies and get-rich-quick  schemes passed on from generation to generation like Jacob's mother did in Genesis 27. She was from a family known for deceit and disloyalty . This resulted in Jacob's offsprings becoming slaves in Egypt for four hundred years. Jacob was trained in the art of disloyalty by his mother. This is the reason behind failures in the family structure and businesses. Loyalty makes a woman attractive "Loyalty makes a person attractive. It is better to be poor than dishonest."Proverbs 19:22 NLT

 When spouses attend separate churches it indicates disloyalty in a marriage . It results in

confusion and emotional damage in children which affects them in their adult life . The spirit behind disloyalty is called " prince of the power of  the air"( Eph.2:2).  The cure for evil family patterns is to belong to a Christian congregation where sound doctrine is taught and be determined to be under the authority of a spirit filled  pastor ( Jer.3:15) The pastor is trained to put things in order to forestall evil family patterns (Titus1:5) and in yout daily prayers , always ask to be filled with the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit .

Rev.22:2 'In the midst of the street  of it, and on either side of the river, was there the  tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits,   and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves  of the tree were for the healing of the nations."

Isaiah 61:3 "..that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified."

   When God created the first family in Eden he blessed them to be fruitful and to multiply , Gen1:28 "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."  The word 'fruitful ' is the Hebrew word pârâh ,it means to grow ,cause to be , make ,increase . The word 'multiply' is the Hebrew word râbâh, it means to become many, enlarge , be in authority , heap , nourish . The word 'replenish' is the Hebrew word  mâlâ, it means to fill ,full, be accomplished, consecrate ,mass together .

     From the last definition we understand that Adam and Eve where to play the role of priesthood over all creation , they were to exercise divine authority over creation and nourish the earth with the essence of godliness. God had already empowered the earth's resources to increase .The plants and animals already had in them the capacity to grow , lizards , fishes ,birds can multiply without man as witnessed in the wild ,therefore, the mandate to multiply, be fruitful and replenish was not a mission to amass wealth as commonly taught by some preachers . 

    This teaching runs contrary to Jesus Christ's injunction in John 6:27 NLTBible " But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”  and “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal.  Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.  Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be." Matthew 6:19‭-‬21 NLT Bible  These are words of Jesus Christ, not of man.

     Setting your affection on earthly riches outside godliness is counterproductive to our spiritual growth and national development. " When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. " (Gal5:19-21) This is what happens when godly riches is interpreted to mean material riches by preachers . Preachers who promote this form of doctrine have been under attacks because of its negative effect on the society .It is the driving force behind greed and the inequitable distribution of resources  .  It destroys marriages . The bible teaches that we should pursue after godliness and contentment. 

   What God means by 'fruitful, multiply and replenish' is contained in  the new testament in Col 1:9-10 "..that ye might be  filled with the

knowledge of his will in all wisdom  and spiritual understanding; That ye might  walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being  fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the  knowledge of God;" Adam and Eve where already rich , just as the church of Christ is but bankruptcy in the fruits of the Spirit is the root of the poverty we suffer. We should seek for leaders who are full of the fruits of the Spirit to lead us to our promised land. We are trees of righteousness and produce fruits of righteousness, this is what gives satisfaction to the human soul and healing .

THE FAMILY LED BY THE SPIRIT

"In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself." Ephesians 5:28 NLT Bible 

    The family is a microcosm of the relationship that exists between God and the church . The church is described as a bride and Jesus Christ the groom . The Holy Ghost is the driving force behind the church. He is God : the anointing and the anointer. He determines how fruitful a marriage  or family would be. 

    The world has a concept of what amounts to a fruitful marriage. It is centered on material features : children , houses, money etc  . This is far from what the scriptures describes as being fruitful . Adam and Eve did not have money while in the garden of Eden and they where amply supplied .  Children could grow up to become armed robbers and terrorists therefore having children does not translate to being fruitful . Abraham was declared blessed (fruitful) before Isaac was born therefore , having children cannot be a true measure of being fruitful before God .God supplies the need of the believer according to his riches in glory. There are blessed and fruitful eunuchs in the church.  

    The believer's needs are not only physical but emotional , spiritual , intellectual or mental . No amount of money can replace the loss by death of a loving family member of a spouse's family . As couples grow older they experience physiological changes that results in mood swings especially among women. Prolonged unemployment , wars , global pandemics , disasters could affect marriages in ways that could result in marital failures . We need the Holy Spirit more than ever in our marriages .

    The fruits of the Holy Ghost : temperance, goodness, longsuffering, peace, joy , love , meekness ,gentleness , temperance , faith ( (Gal.5:22-23) are what makes for a fruitful marriage . The demands of marriage are beyond what the human mind can handle , we need divine intervention to make a headway in our relationships and marriages , therefore, we should daily seek for and pray for the manifestation of the fruits of the holy spirit in our lives . 

     The demands of marriage requires we submit to our spouses ,this can only be possible with meekness , gentleness temperance , faith ,joy. ".. And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything".Ephesians 5:11‭, ‬21‭-‬24 NLT Our submission to each other is not conditional . 

       This level of submission is intuitive  , intellectual  and volitional and life- changing . Jesus Christ altered his life to fit into our earthly lives . It was a degrading thing to do but worth it and an act of love like a nursing mother is forced to breastfeed in public for the love of her child. This involves giving up ones life (esteem) For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her" Ephesians 5:25 NLT.  You cannot pursue a personal dream and yet be in a Spirit-led marriage , dreams have to be customised  while considering all variables to suit the marriage and God's purpose for our lives .

   This creates an environment to raise selfless , spirit-filled children with a passion for God .

 RECOVER YOUR TRUE WORTH IN GLORY

KJVMark 14:3..6 "And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head."  ..."And Jesuus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.”

           The word ‘good’  in this text is the Greek word  ‘kalos’ and it means ‘beautiful’, valuable or virtuous (for appearance or use, and thus distinguished)’ .  This verse of scripture demonstrates the importance of aesthetics in the presentation of the message of the kingdom. The English dictionary defines beautiful as “possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, think about, etc.; delighting the senses or mind:”  Beauty is attractive that is why Satan uses this attribute of creation in propagating rebellion against God's law. Beauty is a quality of Godliness that has been corrupted to the detriment of humanity like in the porn and human trafficking industry .

            The scriptures admonishes us to worship God in the beauty of his holiness. Heaven is God’s holy abode and  the epitome of beauty. Holiness is a beautiful experience to be celebrated in Christ. The woman in Mark14:3-6 had worked all her life to make herself look beautiful in the eyes of the world but had no peace.

      The scriptures say all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Rom3:23). The word ‘glory’ is a Greek word ‘doxa’ which means ‘praiseworthiness’. Sin creates a sense of the lack of self-worth .It is spiritual and cannot be hidden by cosmetics .True beauty is a thing of the heart (1Peter3:3-5)you cannot heal or conceal  a broken heart through therapy. Jesus is the only one that can heal a broken heart. Therefore , haven witnessed the resurrection of her brother Lazarus from death, Mary became convinced Jesus could definitely heal a broken heart.

            She had invested all her wages in the pursuit of love and self-esteem but it only resulted in emotional abuse , dishonour and sexual exploitation . The more she craved to be loved by the world , the emptier she became until she met Jesus. God's grace gave her unlimited access to Jesus' presence against the prevailing religious tradition which relegated women of easy virtue to the background.  Luke 7:39  NIV says “When the Pharisee ….saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is — that she is a sinner." Jesus Christ instantaneously gave this woman a sense of self worth greater than what she had been pursuing all her life and in response to his love ,she gave him her most prized possession .Women do not only want to be seen as objects of pleasure but deserving honour and love.  

        True worship should evoke  giving our best to the service of God like this woman did as commanded in Mark 12:30 AMP” And you shall love the Lord your God out of and with your whole heart and out of and with all your soulRECOVER YOUR TRUE WORTH IN GLORY

Benevolence is a common camouflage used by sinners to appear righteous, but God is not deceived . We should not  be deterred by such display of self righteousness by critics  rather focus on the benefits of worship with our substance. That woman experienced deliverance from all that had weighed her down the very moment Jesus said “leave her alone” . Your contributions to missionary work gives you access to peace , joy and honour beyond measure .

Good-Life Devotional: FULFILMENT AND DISCOVERY OF PURPOSE

 Matt 16:20 KJV “Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ”

       It was expected that the disciples would have been encouraged to make Jesus Christ known while He was yet with them  but the contrary was the case as revealed in the above scripture. There are two major reasons behind this . First, it was to fulfill the prophecy in John 1:10-11 KJV “He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not.”

           Value is a function of the cost expended in the pursuit of an ideal. We only place value on objects that cost us something to acquire. Adam was freely given wisdom in the Garden of Eden which he never truly valued rather, it was that which cost him his relationship with God that he had more value for (Genesis 3:4-7) Naturally , scarcity increases value . 

           Secondly, Jesus' instruction to keep his identity secret was a military strategy to disguise himself as an ordinary human being before Satan and his cohorts. Satan legally obtained our rights to free determination when he deceived Eve . He came disguising himself as a harmless serpent, likewise Jesus the Son of God came disguising himself as mortal man. He made every effort to conceal His identity during His healing ministry; he often told them not to reveal His identity (Matthew 8:4, Luke 8:56).

      The disciples were also instructed not to reveal His identity until He was raised from the dead (Mark 9:9). The reason being that if Satan was privy to God’s plan for the redemption of man, he would not have crucified Jesus Christ (1Corinthians2:8). The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was a necessary event; it is what makes Christianity different from other religions. It is the only course with a logical explanation for the cure for sin through a vicarious universal atonement.  In Christ we are eternally free from God’s judgment.  None of the other religious leaders dared to die for their followers but Jesus Christ did to atone for our sins (religious rituals cannot atone for sins, psalm49:7) and through death He demonstrated the extent of His love for us.    

             Between 701-681 BC, the prophet Isaiah prophesied about the messiah (Jesus Christ) in Isaiah 53:5-8. He prophesied that Jesus will take our punishment upon himself. Therefore, no other sacrifice is needed for our salvation (Roman5:6, 8, 2Cor.5:21).  The born again Christian has been given the responsibility to let the world know about this , this is our life purpose (John15:16).We are ministers of a new covenant, empowered and mandated to show the praises of Him who has called us out of darkness in to His marvelous light. This is what the preaching of the gospel is all about and fulfillment comes from being committed to this purpose as the scriptures say in Matthew 5:6 Msg Bible "You're blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God. He's food and drink in the best meal you'll ever eat.” No material object can give the pleasure and satisfaction that comes from being committed to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. This is the primary purpose for your salvation.

'Enthusiasm without knowledge is no good; haste makes mistakes. " Proverbs 19:2

 " People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the lord. " Proverbs 19:3

  Banks often carry out risks assessments before issuing out loans this is to safeguard against loss of depositors funds.  Due diligence is expected from God's people before giving out God's money . The money in our possession is not ours but God's and we are accountable to him on how it is managed.

    Federal financial institutions are designed to regulate the movement of currencies to avert economic collapse and a state of anarchy . Imagine what will happened it we woke up to a situation where money losses value to the point of buying a loaf of bread for a billion naira. That's what will happen with more money in the economy than goods in a lawless society .It is the duty of born again Christians to daily pray for the success of government institutions to avoid a break down of law and order .

    The  United States Federal Trade Commission warns, "It’s best not to get involved in plans where the money you make is based primarily on the number of distributors you recruit and your sales to them, rather than on your sales to people outside the plan who intend to use the products."

    Given that some Pyramid schemes hide under the cover of Multilevel Marketing businesses and some MLM ask for very large sums of money without a corresponding increase in the sales of products outside members of the group resulting in many referring to them as legalized pyramid schemes  ,. the US Trade commission  gives the following guide to investors 

(1) Find—and study—the company's track record.

(2) Learn about the product.

(3)/Ask questions.

(4) Understand any restrictions.

(5) Talk to other distributors. Beware of an accomplice of a confidence trickster or swindler who poses as a genuine customer to entice or encourage others.

(6) Consider using a friend or adviser as a neutral sounding board, or for a gut check.

(7) Take your time.

(8) Think about whether this plan suits your talents and goals...

   It also important to ask yourself this pertinent question " Can I survive the loss of the money I am about to give out without a performance bond or collateral from the receivers? How will I get back my money in the event of the failure of the business ? 

     God desires that our needs be met and not through unsustainable questionable means that could bring the name of the Lord to disrepute .

    "Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold. " Proverbs 22:1

"But you work on the Sabbath, too, when you obey Moses’ law of circumcision. (Actually, this tradition of circumcision began with the patriarchs, long before the law of Moses.)"John 7:22 NLT Bible 

    The covenant between God and Abraham was sealed with blood through circumcision . This happened 430 years before the law of Moses. As a sign of God's covenant with the Jews  , it became a sign to identify the Jews as God's special people based on his promise to Abraham . 

    The power in the circumcision was in the understanding that it was a proof that the circumcised was devoted to obeying God's commandments. OF WHAT VALUE IS CIRCUMCISION AND RELIGIOUS DUTY  ?

"But you work on the Sabbath, too, when you obey Moses’ law of circumcision. (Actually, this tradition of circumcision began with the patriarchs, long before the law of Moses.)"John 7:22 NLT Bible 

    The covenant between God and Abraham was sealed with blood through circumcision . This happened 430 years before the law of Moses. As a sign of God's covenant with the Jews  , it became a sign to identify the Jews as God's special people based on his promise to Abraham . 

    The power in the circumcision was in the understanding that it was a proof that the circumcised was devoted to obeying God's commandments. Proverbs 24:14 "So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off."

   The word 'expectations' is the Hebrew word , ' tiqvâh' it means: a cord ( as an attachment ) hope, ground of hope, things hoped for, outcome.  Of interest to me is the word 'cord' or an attachment. 

   When we desire a thing or things we trust God's word to grant our requests by faith . Faith is like fishing using a hook and a line or cord. As long as the right cord is being used with a fish attached to the hook a catch is guaranteed . 

    A strategy used by fishes when caught with a cord is to get the cord entangled around an object . This makes it nearly impossible to reel the fish in for fear of a broken fish line. However , experienced fishermen have deviced ways on how to maneuver through obstacles to catch a fish using wisdom .

      That is what the Bible means in proverbs 24;14  . It says faith in God requires the application of wisdom and knowledge. Faith is the substance of things hoped for , therefore , faith requires being expectant .

    We should learn to be wise while waiting for the manifestation of a desired outcome against the backdrop of contrary manifestations. An example of this is Esau's marriage to the two local girls in Genesis 26:34-35  

"At the age of forty, Esau married two Hittite wives: Judith, the daughter of Beeri, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon. 

But Esau’s wives made life miserable for Isaac and Rebekah. " Genesis 26:34-35 

The word 'Judith' in the Hebrew means 'Praised' and Basemath means 'fragrance ': these are qualities needed for fruitfulness . In those days names where given in line with an expected character . Jacob means ' deceiver ' and this was a major attribute in his life and eventually he was used of the lord to fulfill prophesy . 

    Before Isaac and Rebecca's marriage their parents had prepared to bring them up together under God's direction and approval. They anticipated that Esau will tow the same line but to their disappointment he had his own ideas. It was a course of action which brought grief to Isaac and Rebecca but God never let them down. 

      What are your expectations for your spouse , children , ministry , job , business . We should be cautious not to hold on to these expectations so tightly that you become embittered if they do not materialize. Instead hand them over to the lord . Unrealistic expectations is a major cause for backsliding,  health crisis , and failed relationships . 

  When those we hold dear do not meet up with expectations we should maintain a loving relationship and refuse to be embittered trusting the lord to make something beautiful out of the situation and he surely will. .

  Despite losing his birthright to Jacob Esau eventually became very prosperous (Genesis 33:1-11) God often uses the least likely to do the extraordinary , trust his grace to see you through difficult times

   Matt 20:23“And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.”

    The Greek word for the phrase ‘ye shall drink’ is “pino”  it means to “imbibe” Merriam -Webster's dictionary defines  it as : to receive into the mind and retain as moral principles, assimilate or take into solution like a sponge absorbs moisture _   As Christ’s disciples, we will indeed be plunged into the same sufferings that He experienced.

         Suffering is part of the Christian life, it is caused by (1) God (trials) (2)Self: as a consequence of indiscipline or disobedience and (3) Satan (temptation). Regardless of its origin, sufferings end up working out for our greater good .

      In Matthew 20:17-25, the disciples had imagined Jesus’ kingdom to be like those on earth that encouraged celebrity status but they were surprised to learn that it was not God’s will for us to exercise dominion over our fellow man. The dominion theology as promoted by descendants of slave masters in Europe and America results in bad governance , covetousness, rebellion and disunity in families as witnessed in communities where dominion is preached as a virtue . The most corrupt and unstable nations in Africa are those were dominion over humans is preached by the clergy . We are called to serve, Matt 20:25-28 KJV says “Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them .But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: ....” It is the quest to dominate that's behind the failure in the family system.

     Dominion theology exploits the weak resulting in widespread sufferings. King Solomon’s wisdom was tainted with this through his luxurious lifestyle at the expense of the poor(1kings11:1-9) with his subjects praying for deliverance from painful levies (1kings12:8-18) as it is in many religious centers today. True worship demands simplicity with pure motives.  

      Praying with wrong motives with an unrepentant heart results in painful trials . James 4:2,3. Jer. 5:25 therefore ,true repentance is a condition for deliverance. 

     Sometimes repentance results in persecution for one's faith in Christ and that's when we develop Christian character. It is like squeezing grapes to produce wine ,troubles brings out the best in us. God’s power is easily made manifest in times of sufferings: we should be willing to suffer like Jesus did (Phil 3:10). If men hated Jesus for his righteousness they will hate us too , however , there is an eternal consolation in all this, Rom 8:18-19 says” Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later”. Your future is glorious and starts now.

 WORKING OUT YOUR SALVATION

Luke 23:43 "And Jesus said unto him,  Verily I  say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in  paradise."

       The message of grace is premised on a universal forgiveness : everyone is equally a sinner and equally forgiven and the vicarious atonement by Jesus Christ : the price for our sins have been ransomed equally . A perfect example of the application of these principles is in Luke 23 : 39 " And one of the malefactors which were hanged  railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save  thyself and us. 40 But the other answering  rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God,  seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41  And we indeed justly; for we receive the due  reward of our deeds: but this man hath done  nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord,  remember me when thou comest into thy  kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him,  Verily I  say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in  paradise."       A condemned criminal was declared righteous by Jesus Christ. Only the righteous can enter paradise . The following  questions beg for answers 

1) What was the criminal's religion. He was neither a practising Muslim , Jew or Christian . 

2) What effort by way of religious duties ( pilgrimages, vigils, tithes,offerings ,miracles seeds,fastings , olive oil, holy water, wrist band, etc)  did he apply to attain salvation and find favour before Jesus Christ. 

Absolutely none. 

3)Did he work out his salvation with fear and trembling .? Yes he did.

4) How did he work out his salvation with fear and trembling? 

The answer is in understanding the definition of the words 

A) the word  'Trembling' (Greek : tromos ) with fear and trembling, used to describe the anxiety of one who distrusts his ability completely to meet all requirements, but religiously does his utmost to fulfil his duty.

B) The word 'Fear' from Greek 'Phobos' means ;  dread, terror that which strikes terror , reverence for one's husband'

From the above definitions  the  scripture in Philippians  2:12 "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling."

Fear and trembling could not be  referring to a dread for God but the dread of the consequences of rejecting salvation which is eternal damnation . 

 The scriptures describes Jesus Christ as the Husbandman to the believers. The believers duty to the husband ( Jesus Christ) is not a religious duty as enumerated but belief in him . Scriptures says in John 6:28  "Then said  they unto him, What shall we do, that we might  work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and  said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye  believe on him whom he hath sent."  The work is simply to believe in Jesus Christ as the Lord and saviour and the duty is found in John 13:34-35 "A new  commandment I give unto you, That ye love one  another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one  another.  By this shall all  men know that ye  are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.  "and in John 15:16 and Mark 16:15  preach the gospel .If you love someone you will preach the gospel to them and save them from eternal damnations.

    This was what qualified the repentant criminal for Paradise and nothing else. Faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to love our neighbour as ourselves is all that is needed to guarantee a fruitful spiritual adventure .

Proverbs 3:3-4

  "Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart: ]So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.'

   The spirit of goodwill is the sincere willingness others have to see you succeed in your projects . The key word is sincerity and love to assist.  This is born out of the foundation of truth created by the recipient in his relationship with others. The clause " good understanding ' in proverbs 3;3 is the Hebrew word 'ώekel ώêkel' ; it means success: - {discretion} {knowledge} {policy} {prudence} {sense} {understanding} {wisdom} wise. These are the virtues men of truth enjoy in their dealings. The collaborative efforts of their  helpers gives them the advantage in every situation . 

   Truth may be scarce and unpopular but it is indispensable in enjoying people's goodwill and this comes from the lord. King David enjoyed goodwill from Ziba a servant to his enemy Mephibosheth. . The Bible says 2 Samuel 16:2 "And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses be for the king's household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as be faint in the wilderness may drink." King David had the support of over six hundred men some of whom were warriors after he was deposed by his son Absalom in a palace coup. Eventually King David was returned to the throne and Absalom killed .

   On the other hand Abimelech murdered the sons of Gideon in other to rule and bribed the king-makers in Shechem  and became king. However, JothBut:one of the sons of Gideon escaped and placed a curse  on Abimelech and said ‭‭Judges‬ ‭9:19‭-‬20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

 “If you have acted honorably and in good faith toward Gideon and his descendants today, then may you find joy in Abimelech, and may he find joy in you. But if you have not acted in good faith, then may fire come out from Abimelech and devour the leading citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo; and may fire come out from the citizens of Shechem and Beth-millo and devour Abimelech!”

God sent a spirit that stirred up trouble between Abimelech and the leading citizens of Shechem, and they revolted. "

   The lord sent a spirit of ill- will on Abimelech , God says Isaiah 61:8 "For I the LORD love judgment, I hate robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct their work in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them." 

  The grace of God will not exempt a person from the consequence of treachery and sowing seeds of betrayal , It comes with a heavy price of a harvest of very  painful betrayals. (Isaiah 33;1-3 ) The Bible says Judges 9:56-57 Thus God rendered the wickedness of Abimelech, which he did unto his father, in slaying his seventy brethren: And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal." Goodwill is to be preferred in leadership instead of bribery and violence .

" It’s better to live alone in the desert than with a quarrelsome, complaining wife. "Proverbs 21:19

    "Research from Stanford University has also found that complaining reduces the size of our hippocampus, which, is responsible for memory and problem solving. The study found that engaging in complaining or simply hearing someone complain for more than 30 minutes could physically damage our brains." ( M1Psychology. com ) 

   " Chronic complainers often seem to have negative feelings about themselves, and complaining about their circumstances or other people makes them feel more important. This behavior could be caused by mental illnesses or personality disorders, or even childhood experiences that haven't been dealt with.' (https://www.bemidjipioneer.  com) 

    As a preacher for over three decades I have observed a pattern in cases where there are repeated fails in relationships in a given family with a research on Jacob's family ( Genesis 29 to Genesis 31)  . The African church is quick to attribute it to the ancestral curses or so-called marine spirit  but that is contrary to the scriptures (2Corinthians 5:17)   . I also observed these persons tend to suffer fails in relationships after undergoing series of deliverance . This is mostly more with the women  . 

    Whenever there is a program for deliverance, women tend to constitute the majority almost three to one male. Out of curiosity I began to make a biblical research on this issue and my findings where as follows . The majority where from broken homes or homes where parents live with each other but seldom communicate with each other. In such homes there was no emotional ties between the parents.       Secondly, there a strong maternal influence on the children. Most of those interviewed disliked there fathers because of offences of fathers against their mothers . Most Nigerian musicians have songs dedicated to their mothers and almost none to their fathers by reason of unsolved bitterness against their fathers.  

    Thirdly, persons with contentious complaining tendencies prefer to attend churches were death of one's enemies  ,judgment, condemnation, guilt and sorrow was promoted over prayers and preaching on love for one's neighbor . They prefer harsh treatment of the body through fastings  vigils over reconciliation and repentance. A lady once requested that we  pray for the death of her father because he neglects her mum. When I refused and requested we pray for his salvation she quit church.  

    Fourthly, these persons find it hard to express love. The word 'LOVE' is so difficult to pronounce and amazingly they demand  love and care from their partners and others  . . 

  Fifthly they are emotional spenders - spending makes them happy and their homes are filled with things that are of no use including academic certificates all in a bid to feel loved ,they often spend more than they earn . 

    Lastly , they have little passion for deep research into God's word  . In our daily prayers ask the lord for hunger for his word and zeal for prevailing prayers .

2 Kings 18:15-16 And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house . At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.

   King Hezekiah enjoyed relative peace and prosperity because he followed the Lord like his forefather king David . He later did that which was contrary to God's word by legalizing illegality  (2 Kings 18:12) . This resulted in a rival king of Assyria threatening the peace of Judah through an invasion. 

   He was a swallower of riches with the purpose of afflicting God's people with poverty . 

 Most African countries ,Nigeria inclusive are bedevilled with the swallower of riches. It is the main reason behind the poverty in Africa as swallowers in partnership with foreign financial institutions flees the continent of her resources . 

   The Bible says 2 Kings 18:12-13 Because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed his covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not hear them, nor do them. Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them.'  

   The church of Christ is hard hit by religious leaders who are also engaged in capital flight , resulting in poor healthcare services with hospitals without drugs , insecurity, increase in out- of -school children, child trafficking ،poor infrastructure and more. 90 % of prayer requests in the African churches can be solved with a robust economy. Money answers all things . Many persons are beginning to lose interest in Church activities because of poverty which is the plan of the swallower of riches . 

   The psalmist prayed in this regards in Psalms 140:4 ']Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.' 

   The swallower's activities leads to backsliding among believers. In our daily prayers pray Psalms 35:25 'Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.'

  The bible says Job 20:15,18-19 "He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly. That which he laboured for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice therein.

Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away an house which he builded not;"

   Hezekiah's deliverance came to pass when he met prophet Isaiah who prophesied by the Holy Ghost  'Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and shall return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall ..":2 Kings 19:7

   Africa needs more of the likes of prophet Isaiah's unlike the compromised crop of prophets in our cities .He prayed in Isaiah 49:17,19  ' your waster .., those that swallowed you up shall be far away from you . ' That is what African prophets should decree on a daily bases .  Ask God for a new generation of prophets like Isaiah , a preacher of righteousness.

Prayer : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Ghost and power to preach the gospel.
