Good -Life Devotional: IT IS A GRAVE MISUNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE FOR PREACHERS TO SAY, “LEAVE POLITICS FOR THE POLITICIANS.”

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Government is too central to human destiny and the fulfillment of God’s redemptive purposes to be abandoned to the ungodly. Throughout the Bible, God raised righteous men and women into positions of political authority to preserve His people and advance His covenant plan.

Joseph served as Prime Minister in Egypt (Genesis 41:39–44). Through his leadership, nations were preserved from famine, and the lineage of Israel was protected. Daniel functioned at the highest levels in Babylon and Persia (Daniel 6:1–3), influencing imperial policies while maintaining uncompromising devotion to God. Mordecai was elevated to authority in Persia (Esther 10:3), and Esther, as queen (Esther 4:14), used her governmental position to save the Jewish people from destruction. None of them “left politics to politicians.”

Deuteronomy 28:13 declares, “The Lord will make you the head and not the tail.” The head speaks of leadership and decision-making authority.    Government is where policies are formed, destinies are shaped, and national directions are determined. Isaiah 9:6 prophesies of Christ: “The government shall be upon His shoulder.” The Hebrew word for “government” (מִשְׂרָה, misrah) refers to dominion and rule. Jesus is the Head; the Church is His body. If government rests on His shoulder, His body cannot be absent from governance.

Psalm 125:3 warns that the scepter of wickedness should not rest upon the land of the righteous. Godly policies are only possible when godly people occupy leadership. In Acts 6:1–6, Spirit-filled men like Stephen were appointed to administrative leadership, showing that spiritual qualification is essential in public responsibility.

Furthermore, 1 Corinthians 2:15 says, “He who is spiritual judges all things.” The Greek word anakrinō implies discernment and decisive evaluation. Spiritual men are not spectators; they are meant to shape outcomes.

Preachers must not play second fiddle. They are called to be moral compasses and, where led, active participants in governance. Righteous leadership is not optional—it is essential for national destiny and God’s saving purposes.

In our daily prayers we should ask for bad leaders to be replaced with godly and capable ones .

PRAYERS: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to promote good governance.
