WHEN POWER IS PERVERTED — A CALL FOR RIGHTEOUS REFORM

( HOW FAILED ELECTORAL SYTEMS FACILITAES CHRISTIAN GENOCIDE)

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” — Proverbs 29:2

Scripture reveals a sobering truth: broken systems in the hands of wicked men become weapons of oppression. In the Book of Esther, Haman manipulated Persia’s governmental structure to attempt genocide against the Jews (Esther 3:8–13). Through the king’s signet ring, he legalized hatred and empowered officials across 127 provinces to destroy an innocent people. Authority, corrupted by malice, nearly became an instrument of annihilation.

Likewise, before his conversion, Saul of Tarsus weaponized religious and legal authority to persecute Christians (Acts 8:1–3; 9:1–2). Armed with official letters, he dragged believers from their homes, consenting to executions and compelling blasphemy. What was framed as lawful enforcement became organized injustice. Both Haman and Saul operated within recognized legal frameworks, yet their motives were driven by hatred.

History and Scripture teach us that when systems lack transparency and accountability, they can be hijacked by those with destructive agendas. Isaiah 10:1 warns, “Woe to those who enact unjust statutes and to those who constantly record harmful decisions.” A broken electoral system creates room for manipulation of security apparatus and governance structures, enabling injustice to flourish under the guise of legality.

Christians, therefore, must advocate for integrity in civic processes. Daniel distinguished himself in government because “an excellent spirit was in him” (Daniel 6:3). Righteous engagement is not political extremism; it is biblical responsibility. Transparent electoral reforms—free from manual manipulation and strengthened by accountable, verifiable systems—help reduce opportunities for fraud and coercion. Justice thrives where systems are clear and tamper-resistant (Deuteronomy 16:20).

However, our ultimate trust is not in technology but in God (Psalm 20:7). We insist on reform not out of fear, but out of stewardship. As light in the world (Matthew 5:14), believers must prayerfully advocate for systems that protect life, preserve justice, and prevent the abuse of power.

When governance is righteous, peace follows. When systems are corrupted, suffering multiplies. May the Church stand for truth, justice, and integrity in every sphere of influence.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome bad governance.
