Good -Life Devotional: WHEN PROPHECY MEETS INTERCESSION
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Daniel 9:1–19
In the first year of Darius, Daniel discovered through the writings of the prophet Jeremiah that Israel’s captivity would last seventy years (Jeremiah 25:11–12). The appointed time had essentially been fulfilled, yet the people were still in bondage. Instead of complaining or doubting God’s word, Daniel responded with prayer.
The Book of Daniel 9:3 says he “set his face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel understood a powerful spiritual truth: prophecy does not eliminate the need for prayer; it invites participation.
Though personally righteous, Daniel did not distance himself from the nation’s sins. He prayed, “We have sinned, and have committed iniquity” (Daniel 9:5). This was national repentance. He appealed not to Israel’s goodness but to God’s mercy: “O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive… defer not” (Daniel 9:19). His prayer was humble, urgent, and covenant-based.
Heaven responded immediately. The angel Gabriel was dispatched with understanding and assurance (Daniel 9:21–23). Soon after, God stirred the heart of Cyrus the Great to issue a decree permitting the Jews to return and rebuild Jerusalem (Ezra 1:1–4). What seemed delayed was activated through intercession.
This devotional teaches us that national transformation often begins with one burdened believer. God still seeks men and women who will stand in the gap (Ezekiel 22:30). When promises appear delayed, the answer is not despair but prayer. When seasons seem extended beyond their time, inquiry before God is required.
Daniel may had not being visible in protest yet he travailed in the secret place. And history shifted.
Beloved, when prophecy meets intercession, destiny is released. One surrendered heart can influence a nation. Let us not merely read God’s promises—let us pray them into manifestation.
In our daily prayers we should interceed for national deliverance from corrupt leaders.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for the deliverance of nations .
