The yoke of oppression shall be broken because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.
Good -Life Devotional:
PREACHERS AT THE FOREFRONT OF ELECTORAL REFORMS
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Text: Book of Esther 8–10: ,Esther 10:3
Righteous leadership is not silence in the face of injustice. In the days of Mordecai, a corrupt decree had been signed to annihilate the Jews across 127 provinces. Though the first law could not be revoked, God elevated Mordecai to a position of authority. After the fall of Haman, Mordecai received the king’s signet ring and enacted a second decree in the name of King Xerxes, empowering the Jews to assemble and defend themselves. Esther 10:3 declares that he “worked for the good of his people and spoke for the welfare of all the Jews.”
Mordecai did not retreat into religious comfort; he used lawful structures to protect his people. This is a model for preachers today. The pulpit must not only preach salvation but also righteousness in governance. Proverbs 29:2 says, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.” Silence in the face of corrupt systems is complicity. Isaiah 1:17 commands us: “Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor.”
In many African nations, especially Nigeria, some spiritual leaders benefit from broken electoral systems and resist reform. This should not be so among God’s servants. Like John the Baptist who confronted Herod (Luke 3:19), and like Nathan who rebuked David (2 Samuel 12:7), preachers must courageously address injustice.
Electoral reform is not merely political; it is moral stewardship. Romans 13:3 teaches that rulers are meant to reward good and restrain evil. When systems are manipulated, the Church must pray and advocate for integrity. 1 Timothy 2:1–2 urges prayers for leaders so that we may live peaceful and godly lives.
Let us pray that God raises modern Mordecais—preachers who refuse corruption, defend the vulnerable, and work for the welfare of their people. The Church must stand at the forefront of reform, not at the banquet of compromise.
PRAYERS : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to fight against injustice.
