Good -Life  Devotional:

SPIRITUAL AWARENESS AS SENSITIVITY TO GOD’S WARNING AND INSTRUCTION

Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Spiritual awareness is the capacity to stay spiritually alert—to perceive God’s voice, warnings, and instructions even when others are spiritually blind. Jesus emphasized this necessity in Matthew 24:42: “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.” To “watch” is not merely to observe events, but to live with discernment, sensitivity, and readiness before God.

In every generation, God speaks. Yet only the spiritually aware respond correctly. Many live on low spiritual ground, distracted by sin, pleasure, and self-interest, while a few rise to spiritual high ground—where divine signals are clearly perceived. Noah stands as a powerful example of such awareness. Genesis 6:5–9 describes a world overwhelmed by corruption and moral decay, a generation that had lost all sensitivity to God. In contrast, “Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.”

Noah discerned the times spiritually. Hebrews 11:7 declares that he was warned by God about things not yet seen and moved with godly fear. Spiritual awareness begins with hearing God. Noah heard God’s warning about impending judgment while others were absorbed in wickedness and pleasure (Genesis 6:13).

Awareness always produces obedience. Noah built the ark exactly as God commanded, without alteration or delay, despite ridicule and opposition (Genesis 6:22). True spiritual sensitivity is proven not by revelation alone, but by obedient action.

Awareness ultimately brings deliverance. While the flood destroyed the spiritually unaware, Noah’s obedience preserved him and his household (Genesis 7:1). Today, God still warns His people through His Word and the Holy Spirit. Scripture exhorts us, “Do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:8, 13).

Spiritual awareness requires righteousness, faith, and obedience. Ignoring divine warnings leads inevitably to spiritual loss, but sensitivity to God secures life, direction, and divine preservation.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome evil .
