YOU CANNOT SERVE TWO MASTERS

The anointing of God's favour is restoring all that was lost in your life .

Good -Life Devotional: YOU CANNOT SERVE TWO MASTERS

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Matthew 6:24 (AMP):

"No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord]."

   THE CONTEXT OF THE VERSE:

This verse is part of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, where He teaches about righteous living in God's kingdom. In Matthew 6, Jesus focuses on the heart's orientation, especially concerning wealth, anxiety, and trust in God.

THE CONCEPT OF "TWO MASTERS":

Jesus uses a metaphor of servanthood to illustrate divided loyalty. In ancient times, a servant could not fully belong to two masters because each would demand exclusive allegiance.

Spiritually, this principle applies to God and "mammon" (wealth, materialism, or worldly values). One's heart will always prioritize one over the other.

WHY DIVIDED LOYALTY IS IMPOSSIBLE:

GOD'S HOLINESS: God demands total devotion because of His holy and sovereign nature (Deuteronomy 6:5). Splitting allegiance compromises worship and trust in Him.

MAMMON’S DEMANDS: Wealth and materialism often foster greed, pride, and self-reliance, which pull people away from dependence on God.

Serving God requires faith, humility, and a willingness to let go of earthly attachments.

When one prioritizes mammon, it leads to anxiety, selfishness, and spiritual emptiness, contrary to God's kingdom values.

Critics might argue that wealth and faith can coexist. While the Bible does not condemn wealth itself (1 Timothy 6:17-19), it warns against loving or trusting wealth over God.

Jesus’ teaching calls for stewardship rather than ownership. Christians are to manage resources in a way that honors God, acknowledging Him as the ultimate provider.

In today's materialistic culture, this verse challenges believers to examine their priorities.

This scripture highlights the futility of pursuing wealth over eternal values, showing how only God provides true peace and purpose.

The incompatibility between serving God and mammon is a heart issue. Christians are  to emphasize the need for a singular focus on God, countering materialistic ideologies with the promise of eternal satisfaction in Christ.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and wisdom to prioritise our choices .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome greed.

TO BE SAVED ,YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS MUST BE HIGHER THAN THAT OF THE PHARISEES

The more the opposition is against you,the higher shall be your promotion because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional: TO BE SAVED ,YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS MUST BE HIGHER THAN THAT OF THE PHARISEES

By Michael Benson Ajayi

Matthew 5:20 (AMP) states:

"For I say to you that unless your righteousness [uprightness, moral essence] is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."

UNDERSTANDING THE CONTEXT

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus contrasts true righteousness with the external, ritualistic righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. The scribes and Pharisees were seen as the epitome of religious observance, yet their focus was often on outward appearances rather than inward transformation. Jesus calls His followers to pursue a righteousness that flows from the heart and is rooted in a genuine relationship with God.

KEY POINTS

RIGHTEOUSNESS BEYOND WORKS: This verse does not advocate for legalistic adherence to the law but highlights the need for a deeper, spiritual righteousness that surpasses external acts. This righteousness comes from faith and the transformative work of the Holy Spirit (Philippians 3:9).

CONDEMNATION OF HYPOCRISY: The Pharisees' righteousness was often hypocritical. They meticulously followed rules but neglected justice, mercy, and faithfulness (Matthew 23:23). Jesus emphasizes the importance of sincerity in one's faith.

THE ROLE OF GRACE: this "greater righteousness" is possible not through human effort but through the grace of God. By believing in Jesus, one is justified and empowered to live righteously (Romans 3:22-24).

 ADDRESSING COMMON OBJECTIONS

OBJECTION: Isn't this a contradiction of grace?

Jesus' teaching here does not nullify grace. Instead, it underscores that true grace transforms the believer's life. Righteousness is not earned but evidenced by a heart changed by God (James 2:17).

OBJECTION: Is it unfair to demand more than the Pharisees?

The "more" refers to quality, not quantity. It shifts the focus from external compliance to internal transformation, achievable through a personal relationship with Christ.

PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS FOR CHRISTIANS

Examine Your Heart: Are your actions motivated by love for God or a desire to appear righteous?

RELY ON THE SPIRIT: True righteousness is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

LIVE OUT THE BEATITUDES: Jesus' teachings in Matthew 5 provide a framework for this greater righteousness.

JESUS' CHRIST IS THE END OF THE LAW

Romans 10:4: "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes."

In Ezekiel 36:26-27: God promises to give a new heart and spirit, enabling obedience.

Also in Hebrews 10:16: God writes His laws on our hearts under the new covenant.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to live in righteousness.

THE PREACHING ON RIGHTEOUSNESS BRINGS PROSPERITY TO A NATION

The doors to abundance shall be unlocked because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good-Life Devotional:

THE PREACHING ON RIGHTEOUSNESS BRINGS PROSPERITY TO A NATION

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Righteousness is the foundation for true prosperity in any nation. Isaiah 45:8 declares, "Drip down, O heavens, from above, and let the clouds pour down righteousness; let the earth open up and salvation bear fruit, and righteousness spring up with it. I, the LORD, have created it" (AMP). This verse emphasizes that when righteousness is established, salvation and prosperity follow as natural fruits.

The early Church exemplified this principle. Acts 2:42-47 and Acts 4:31-37 show how believers lived in unity, sharing their possessions and ensuring no one lacked. Their communal prosperity, grounded in righteousness, demonstrated God's design for a flourishing society. Instead of focusing on individual wealth, the Church’s generosity and devotion to righteous living transformed their communities, earning them favor with God and man.

Modern preaching often prioritizes individual prosperity, fostering greed and inequality. James 5:1-6 warns against hoarding wealth and exploiting the poor, reminding us of the judgment awaiting such actions. True prosperity begins with righteousness, which fosters equity and uplifts the entire community. Proverbs 14:34 asserts, "Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity and virtuous character] exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people" (AMP).

The message of righteousness must remain central in Christian teachings. It redirects focus from materialism to godly living, creating a just society where wealth is a tool for collective good. As believers, we must embody righteousness, seeking first God's kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that all other things will be added to us (Matthew 6:33).

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and for our pastors to make righteousness the core of all preachings .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to promote righteousness in the world .

YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS IS NOT MEASURED BY WEALTH

You shall not be stagnant and abandoned because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional: YOUR RIGHTEOUSNESS IS NOT MEASURED BY WEALTH

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

In today’s world, many false preachers equate material wealth with righteousness. They teach that financial prosperity is a sign of God’s favor and approval. However, Scripture makes it abundantly clear that true righteousness is not measured by money or possessions. Jesus Himself warns in Luke 12:15 (AMP), “...Guard yourselves and keep free from all covetousness; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.”

The Apostle Paul, in Philippians 4:11-12, illustrates the essence of contentment. He writes, "I have learned to be content [and self-sufficient through Christ, satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or uneasy] regardless of my circumstances. I know how to get along and live humbly, and I also know how to enjoy abundance." Paul’s words show that righteousness and contentment are rooted in faith and reliance on Christ, not on material wealth.

False teachers who claim that riches are a sign of righteousness cause harm to individuals and society. They promote greed, discontent, and instability, drawing people away from true spiritual growth. The Bible warns against such individuals in 1 Timothy 6:10, stating, "For the love of money is a root of all evils... Some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith."

Instead, believers are encouraged to seek first God’s kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Wealth may come or go, but righteousness is found in living a life of faith, obedience, and love. Let us avoid teachings that equate riches with godliness and pursue true contentment in Christ.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and contentment while serving the lord in righteousness.

THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL FLOURISH LIKE A PALM TREE

You are being strategically positioned for extraordinary breakthroughs by the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional: THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL FLOURISH LIKE A PALM TREE

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Psalm 92:13-15 declares, “Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. Growing in grace, they will still thrive and bear fruit in old age; they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, ‘The Lord is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.’”

This passage likens the righteous to a palm tree, highlighting their enduring strength, productivity, and resilience.

The palm tree is uniquely designed by God to thrive in challenging environments. Its deep roots seek hidden water sources, symbolizing the righteous who draw spiritual nourishment from God’s Word (Psalm 1:3). The palm also produces fruit, such as dates, which nourish and sustain others, much like the righteous who bear spiritual fruit to bless the world (Galatians 5:22-23).

The prosperity of the church is primarily for promoting righteousness in society. Proverbs 14:34 reminds us, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." The church thrives when its members reflect God’s character, influencing the world through love, justice, and truth.

As ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20), the church must proclaim His righteousness through both word and deed. By living out godly principles, the church becomes a light in darkness (Matthew 5:14-16), pointing society back to God’s standards. Just as the palm tree flourishes and stands tall, so too will the righteous, bringing glory to God and transforming their communities.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and wisdom for innovation and creativity for prosperity.for promotion of righteousness in the  society.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to prosper.

THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL PROSPER UNDER ADVERSITY

The more the opposition against you , the higher shall be your promotion because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good - Life Devotional:

THE RIGHTEOUS SHALL PROSPER UNDER ADVERSITY

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

God’s promises to the righteous shine brightest in times of adversity. Genesis 26 highlights Isaac's obedience during a famine. Despite challenging circumstances, Isaac obeyed God’s command to stay in Gerar rather than fleeing to Egypt. He sowed in the land and reaped a hundredfold in the same year, for “the Lord blessed him” (Genesis 26:12). This teaches that God’s blessings are not bound by human limitations or economic conditions.

Psalm 4:1 reminds believers of God’s faithfulness in distress: “Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; be gracious to me and hear my prayer.” When Christians rely on God, He anchors them, granting peace and provision even amidst challenges.

Scripture encourages Christians, especially leaders, to engage in gainful employment or entrepreneurial ventures to ensure the church lacks nothing. Proverbs 10:4 teaches, “The diligent hand brings wealth,” while 2 Thessalonians 3:10 exhorts, “If anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat.” Through honest labor and business, believers earn respect from outsiders, as seen in 1 Corinthians 4:11-13, where Paul highlights his work ethic.

God’s promise in Philippians 4:19 is unwavering: “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” In every season, God prospers the righteous who trust in Him, apply wisdom, and remain steadfast. Even in adversity, believers are called to thrive and be testimonies of God’s faithfulness.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and wisdom for creativity, integrity and diligence in our duties .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to prosper in adversity.

PUT ON THE ARMOUR OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

The evil verdict against you shall be overturned because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional:

PUT ON THE ARMOUR OF RIGHTEOUSNESS

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

The armour of righteousness is essential for every believer navigating the spiritual battles of life. In 2 Corinthians 6:7, Paul highlights this divine protection, saying, “By [speaking] the word of truth in the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand [like holding the sword to attack] and for the left [like holding the shield to defend]” (AMP). This armour equips us to stand firm against the forces of darkness, both offensively and defensively, as we uphold God’s truth.

Righteousness is not merely moral uprightness but a state of being aligned with God through faith in Jesus Christ. As believers, we are called to actively wear this armour, living lives that reflect God's holiness. In 1 John 5:18, we are assured, “We know [with confidence] that anyone born of God does not [habitually] sin; but He (Jesus) who was born of God keeps him [safe], and the evil one does not touch him” (AMP). Righteous living acts as a shield, preventing the enemy’s schemes from penetrating our lives.

Ephesians 6:14 exhorts believers to “stand firm therefore, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness” (AMP). This imagery reinforces the need for vigilance and preparation.

Through Christ, we are empowered to walk in righteousness, trusting that He protects us from harm (Psalm 91:4). By consistently seeking His Word and living in obedience, we embrace the victorious life He has promised.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and a pure heart to show forth his righteousness.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to live in holiness .
