Good -Life Devotional:
WATCH YOUR LIFE AND DOCTRINE
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
1 Timothy 4:16 (AMP)
“Pay close attention to yourself [concentrate on your personal development] and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.”
Paul’s counsel to Timothy reveals that ministry is not only about preaching but about living the message. A man of God must first watch his life—his conduct, motives, and example—before watching his doctrine. What we live often speaks louder than what we say. Paul understood this truth deeply; that’s why he boldly declared, “Follow me as I follow Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). His life was a pattern of faith and obedience that mirrored the life of Jesus.
To watch your life means to walk in integrity, humility, and holiness, so that others may safely follow your example. To watch your doctrine means to ensure that your teaching aligns with the unchanging Word of God, not with the shifting trends of men.
Paul urged Timothy to persevere in these things—to keep his heart pure and his teaching true. Ministry is not a sprint but a lifelong pursuit of Christlikeness. When the preacher’s life and doctrine harmonize, his words carry divine authority and bring life to his hearers.
MEDITATION:
A true leader first follows Christ before asking others to follow him.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and a submissive heart .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to prosper .
Lord, help me to live what I preach. Let my life reflect Christ so that others may follow You through me. Keep me steadfast in truth and pure in heart
