YOU ARE NOT TRYING TO BE SPIRITUALLY FREE. YOU ARE FREE

The yoke of fear and oppresion is broken because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional; Good -Life Devotional: YOU ARE NOT TRYING TO BE SPIRITUALLY FREE. YOU ARE FREE

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Romans 6:7–14 presents a powerful apologetic: the believer in Jesus Christ is not trying to become free from sin — he has already been set and made free. “For he that is dead is freed from sin” (Romans 6:7). Through union with Christ in His death and resurrection, sin loses its legal authority.    This is not emotional freedom but judicial freedom. The old man was crucified with Christ so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless (Romans 6:6).

Jesus confirmed this truth in John 8:36: “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” The freedom Christ gives is real, complete, and present. The believer is no longer a slave but now lives under grace, not law (Romans 6:14). Grace does not encourage sin; it breaks sin’s dominion. The tyranny of sin is replaced by the reign of righteousness.

This is why Paul says, “Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:11). The Christian life begins with knowing and counting this truth as reality.   Sin may still attempt influence, but it no longer has ownership. The believer now has the capacity to present his body as an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:13).

Other scriptures affirm this liberty. “Sin shall not have dominion over you” (Romans 6:14). “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Corinthians 3:17). “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity” (Titus 2:14). Therefore, the believer walks in freedom, not striving for victory but living from victory already accomplished in Christ.

In our daily prayers we should seek for grace to walk in the newness of life in Christ .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome oppression .
