Good-Life Devotional: KEYS OF THE KINGDOM (Part 2)
By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi
Text: Matthew 18:18; Luke 10:19; Ephesians 1:19–23
The authority Jesus gives His Church is not permission to command heaven according to human desires. Rather, it is the privilege of enforcing Christ's victory by acting in agreement with His revealed will. Therefore, when Jesus said, "Whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven" (Matthew 18:18), He taught believers to exercise authority that is consistent with God's purposes.
The apostles demonstrated these kingdom keys through preaching, prayer, and faith. They healed the sick in Jesus' name (Acts 3:6), confronted spiritual opposition (Acts 16:18), and boldly proclaimed the gospel despite persecution (Acts 4:29–31). Their confidence rested not in themselves but in the risen Christ, who is "far above all rule and authority and power and dominion" (Ephesians 1:20–23).
Christian apologetics affirms that the resurrection proves Christ's universal lordship. Since He reigns, believers need not live in fear. We resist the devil (James 4:7), overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Revelation 12:11), and remember that "greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world" (1 John 4:4). The keys of the kingdom are exercised through obedience, faithful proclamation of Scripture, fervent prayer, and unwavering trust in the authority of Jesus Christ.
PRAYER POINTS Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy spirit of power to overcome temptation.
Lord, teach me to use the keys of the kingdom according to Your will.
Fill me with boldness to proclaim the gospel without fear.
Every work of darkness opposing my destiny, bow to the authority of Christ.
Let the power of Christ be revealed through my life for His glory.
May Your kingdom come and Your will be done in my home, community, and nation, in Jesus' name. Amen.
