MONEY ANSWERS ALL THINGS?
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Ecclesiastes 10:19
“A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things.” — Ecclesiastes 10:19 (KJV)
Ecclesiastes 10:19 is sometimes interpreted to mean that money is the ultimate solution to every human problem. However, an examination of Scripture reveals that Solomon was describing the practical usefulness of money in earthly affairs, not declaring money to be superior to God.
Money provides purchasing power. It can procure food, shelter, education and other material necessities. Nevertheless, its usefulness has limitations. Money cannot purchase salvation (Ephesians 2:8–9), eternal life (Mark 8:36), God's presence (Acts 8:18–23), or genuine peace (John 14:27).
Ecclesiastes 5:10 further declares that whoever loves money will never be satisfied with it. Similarly, 1 Timothy 6:10 warns that the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. The problem is not possessing money but allowing money to possess the heart.
Jesus teaches that nobody can serve both God and mammon (Matthew 6:24). Furthermore, Philippians 4:19 reminds believers that God, not money, is the ultimate source of provision.
REFLECTION: Money can answer many earthly demands, but it cannot answer the eternal needs of the human soul. It can purchase a house but not a peaceful home; medical treatment but not guaranteed healing. Therefore, use money responsibly without making it your confidence. Let God remain your source, your security and your greatest treasure.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive Him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome greed . Father, deliver my heart from the love of money. Teach me to manage material resources wisely while trusting You as my ultimate source and sufficiency, in Jesus' name. Amen.
