KEYS OF THE KINGDOM (Part 1)

The evil verdict against your liberation shall be overturned because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good-life Devotional: KEYS OF THE KINGDOM (Part 1)

By Rev. Michael Benson Ajayi

Text: Matthew 16:18–19; 2 Kings 19:1–35; Luke 10:19

Jesus declared, "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 16:19). Keys represent delegated authority. They do not belong to the servant but to the King. Christ, who possesses "the keys of death and Hades" (Revelation 1:18), entrusts His Church with kingdom authority to proclaim the gospel, resist the devil, pray according to God's will, and advance His kingdom.

The prophet Isaiah demonstrated this principle during the Assyrian invasion. King Sennacherib mocked the living God and threatened Jerusalem. Instead of surrendering to fear, King Hezekiah spread the threatening letter before the Lord in prayer, while Isaiah proclaimed God's word of deliverance (2 Kings 19:14–34). God honored His Word, and in one night the Angel of the Lord struck down 185,000 Assyrian soldiers (2 Kings 19:35). The victory was won by faith in God's authority rather than military strength.

Today, believers have even greater confidence because Jesus has declared, "I have given you authority... over all the power of the enemy" (Luke 10:19). Through His finished work, Christ has all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18), and His people minister under that authority. We are seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6) and are called to stand firm against every work of darkness (James 4:7).
