UNITY IN THE MIDST OF DISPUTABLE MATTERS

The yoke of stagnation and confusion is broken because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional:

UNITY IN THE MIDST OF DISPUTABLE MATTERS

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

 Text ; Romans 14:1-6

The church has always contained believers who sincerely disagree on certain issues. In Romans 14, the Apostle Paul addressed conflicts concerning dietary practices and the observance of special days.

These were not matters affecting the gospel itself but areas where Christians held different convictions. Paul's instruction was clear: "Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things" (Romans 14:1).

The Greek word translated "disputable matters" refers to opinions or debatable issues that are not essential doctrines of the faith. Paul did not command uniformity in every opinion; rather, he commanded unity in Christ. One believer ate all foods, another abstained. One esteemed certain days, another regarded all days alike. Yet both sought to honor the Lord.

How often believers divide over issues where Scripture allows liberty! Methods of worship, educational choices, dress standards, church traditions, and many other secondary matters can become sources of contention and resulted in marital crisis and divorce .

Paul reminds us that every servant stands or falls before his own Master, and that Master is Christ.

Christian maturity is demonstrated not merely by being convinced of one's position, but by extending grace toward those who differ. Unity does not require complete agreement on every non-essential matter. It requires humility, love, and trust that God is working in His people. There is no winner in an argument in a marriage , it is not a competition rather , we compliment each other regardless.

Today, ask yourself: Do I seek to win arguments  even in a marriage or to preserve the unity of Christ's body? The Lord calls us to hold convictions firmly while holding our brethren lovingly.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I think him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for temperance . Lord, help me distinguish between essential truths and disputable matters. Give me grace to love fellow believers even when we differ, and preserve unity in Your church. Amen.
