Good -Life Devotional: THE ABUSE OF ECONOMIC HOURS FOR RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES

Proverbs 10:5 says, "He who gathers during summer and takes advantage of his opportunities is a son who acts wisely, but he who sleeps during harvest and ignores the moment of opportunity is a son who acts shamefully" (AMP). 

   In agrarian societies, farmers rise early, sometimes before 5 a.m., to labor before the scorching sun makes work difficult. Unfortunately, many modern Christians, especially in Africa, have been misled to believe that night prayers are the only ones God answers. As a result, thousands stay awake at night and sleep through the economic hours of the day, missing valuable time for productivity and progress.

  This misplaced zeal is one of the root causes of poverty in Nigeria. Workers arrive late to their jobs, sluggish and unfocused, compromising productivity and harming businesses. Contrary to popular belief, Jesus met Peter during the day, after his work (Luke 5:1–7). He used Peter’s boat and only after the teaching did He bless their labor with abundance—proof that God blesses diligence, not sleep deprivation. Most  miracles recorded of Jesus Christ in the bible were in the day time . God is not influenced by weather or time . He created them.

   Apostle Paul, though a preacher, never allowed ministry to hinder his trade; he worked with his hands as a tentmaker (Acts 18:3). Scripture warns, "The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing" (Proverbs 20:4). Also, "It is vain for you to rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for He gives sleep to His beloved" (Psalm 127:2). True spirituality does not violate principles of diligence and timing.

  God honors hard work, not ritualistic sacrifice of economic hours. Habitual night prayers leads to poverty , health problems , business and marital failure . Let the Holy Spirit lead you.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and wisdom in worship .

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and wisdom for excellence.
