You shall eat of the good of the land because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.
Good-Life Devotional: COMMANDING THE DAY (PART 1)
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
"Have you ever in your life commanded the morning, And caused the dawn to know its place" (AMP)
The idea that a born again Christian can determine how a day should be is an idea that is in dispute among bible scholars , Let's look at the context of the verse of scripture from which the idea is derived.
VERSE CONTEXT:
Job 38:12 is part of a long speech by God to Job, beginning in Job 38. After Job's repeated laments and challenges to understand God's justice, God responds—not with direct answers, but with a series of rhetorical questions highlighting divine power and wisdom. This particular verse emphasizes God’s sovereign control over nature, especially the rising of the sun, which no man can command.
APOLOGETIC SIGNIFICANCE:
1. GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY VS. HUMAN LIMITATION
This verse is a profound apologetic against human self-sufficiency and pride. It reminds humanity of our limited power. Science can predict the sunrise but cannot command it. This is crucial when answering secular worldviews that elevate human reasoning above divine revelation. Job 38:12 is God asking Job (and us): “Can you control the most basic functions of the universe?”
APOLOGETIC POINT: Human beings, despite technological progress, are still subject to natural laws established by God. This affirms God's supremacy and invites humility.
2. DESIGN AND ORDER IN CREATION
The regular appearance of morning testifies to design, not chance. God's question to Job assumes that the morning doesn't just "happen" randomly—it has a "place" and follows order.
Romans 1:20 supports this: "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes...have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made..."
APOLOGETIC POINT: The daily dawn reflects not only God’s power but also His intentional design. This counters atheistic claims that the universe is a product of random chance.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and the spirit of wisdom and revelation of his word.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to preach the gospel.
