Text: Psalm 106:13-15

   One of the greatest dangers facing the Church is the temptation to measure success by outward results rather than by obedience to God's will. Scripture warns that self-will may produce visible success while concealing spiritual poverty. Africa especially Nigeria boasts of the richest preachers and largest  church buildings and yet struggles with deep moral bankruptcy, poverty, political instability and insecurity .

    Peter spoke of false teachers who had "an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children" (2 Peter 2:14). These individuals appeared prosperous, yet God described them as cursed. Their ministries were driven by greed rather than submission to the Holy Spirit.

    Jesus gave an even more sobering warning in Matthew 7:21-23. Many would point to their prophecies, miracles, and mighty works on the Day of Judgment, yet Christ would declare, "I never knew you." Their activities were impressive, but they lacked the approval that comes from walking in God's will.

    To avoid this trap, believers must cultivate a life of fellowship with the Holy Spirit. In Acts 13:2, the prophets and teachers at Antioch ministered to the Lord and fasted before receiving divine direction. They did not rush ahead with personal ambitions.    Likewise, Jude 1:20-21 instructs us to build ourselves up in faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, and keep ourselves in the love of God.

   Paul further exhorts believers: "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth" (Colossians 3:2). Eternal values must govern earthly pursuits. God's presence is worth more than worldly success.

   May we never exchange divine approval for human applause. Better to walk slowly in God's perfect will than to run swiftly in self-will and inherit spiritual leanness. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33).

THE LORD GRANTS THE DESIRES OF THE SELFWILLED BUT SENDS LEANNESS (PART 1)

Text: Psalm 106:13-15

Psalm 106 recounts one of Israel's greatest spiritual tragedies. Though they witnessed God's mighty works in Egypt and at the Red Sea, they quickly forgot His counsel and lusted after their own desires. The Scripture says, "And He gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul" (Psalm 106:15).

  The word "leanness" is translated from the Hebrew word 'razon:, which means thinness, wasting away, spiritual barrenness, or inward emptiness. God granted their request, yet withheld the spiritual nourishment that comes from His perfect will. They received what they wanted but lost what they needed most.

   This teaches that not every answered prayer is a sign of God's approval. Sometimes God permits people to have their own way so they can discover the emptiness of self-will. The greatest blessing is not getting what we desire but becoming what God desires.

   The prosperity of the selfwilled can be deceptive. Asaph admitted, "I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked" (Psalm 73:3). Yet later he realized that their apparent success was temporary and their end was destruction (Psalm 73:17-19).

   Many believers become discouraged when they see rebellious people prospering while those seeking God face trials. However, God's evaluation is eternal, not temporary. Riches, popularity, and influence are poor substitutes for His presence.

   Today, ask yourself: Am I pursuing God's counsel or merely seeking God's permission for my own plans? A full bank account and an empty soul is a tragic exchange. Seek His will above every earthly gain.

THE DANGER OF BEING A SELF-WILLED CHRISTIAN

   The word "self-willed" in Titus 1:7 comes from the Greek word authadēs (αὐθάδης), meaning self-pleasing, arrogant, stubbornly determined to have one's own way, regardless of God's will or the counsel of others. A self-willed person exalts his own opinions above divine instruction and godly authority.
   The danger of self-will is clearly illustrated in the lives of Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron. Though they were priests, they offered strange fire before the Lord, which God had not commanded (Leviticus 10:1-2). Their actions showed disregard for God's order and for the spiritual leadership of their father, Aaron. As a result, divine judgment fell upon them. Likewise, many Christians today disregard biblical instruction, reject spiritual oversight, and offer to God service, worship, or sacrifices that are not motivated by obedience and reverence (Malachi 1:8; Hebrews 12:28-29).
    King Saul provides another warning. Instead of waiting for Samuel as instructed, he presumed to offer the sacrifice himself (1 Samuel 13:9-11). His self-will cost him the kingdom. What appeared to be a small act of impatience was actually rebellion against God's appointed order. Scripture declares that "rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft" (1 Samuel 15:23).
    Titus 1:7 reveals the character of the self-willed believer: he is often soon angry, proud, greedy for dishonest gain, given to alcohol, and quarrelsome. According to 2 Peter 2:10, such individuals are presumptuous and are not afraid to speak evil of God's servants. Proverbs 3:5-6 instructs believers to trust in the Lord rather than their own understanding.
    A self-willed Christian may appear confident, but he walks in spiritual danger. True discipleship requires humility, submission to God's Word, respect for godly authority, and a willingness to say, like Christ, "Not my will, but Yours, be done" (Luke 22:42).

Text: James 1:25; Galatians 5:1,13

    The Bible describes God's Word as "the perfect law of liberty" (James 1:25). This means that genuine freedom is found not in rejecting God's commands but in obeying them. The person who looks into God's Word and continues therein experiences the blessings of true liberty.

    Peter warns that those who abuse liberty often become "presumptuous" and "selfwilled" (2 Peter 2:10). They despise authority, reject correction, and exalt their own opinions above Scripture. Pride gradually corrupts their hearts until they become spiritually blind. Peter further describes them as irrational and corrupt, moving toward destruction because they refuse the truth (2 Peter 2:12).

    Paul therefore exhorts believers: "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free" (Galatians 5:1). Yet in the same chapter he warns, "Use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh" (Galatians 5:13). Christian liberty is never a license to sin. It is the power to live a life pleasing to God through the Holy Spirit.

    The believer who walks in liberty remains accountable, submissive to God's Word, faithful in fellowship, and responsive to godly counsel. He is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the Word (James 1:25). Such a person enjoys spiritual growth, protection, and fruitfulness.

    Let us therefore reject every message that turns grace into permissiveness. The liberty of Christ leads to holiness, obedience, humility, and eternal life. Any liberty that encourages rebellion, arrogance, and sin is a counterfeit that ultimately leads to bondage and destruction.

Lord Jesus, keep me from abusing the liberty You purchased with Your blood. Help me to remain obedient, humble, and accountable. THE FALSE PROMISE OF LIBERTY

Text: 2 Peter 2:18-19

   The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ secured true liberty for believers. Through Christ, we are delivered from the condemnation of sin, the dominion of Satan, and the bondage of the law. The Apostle Paul warned about false brethren who secretly sought to bring believers back into bondage, declaring that Christian liberty must be protected (Galatians 2:4).

    However, throughout history, false teachers have distorted the doctrine of liberty. Peter describes them as those who "speak great swelling words of vanity" and "promise them liberty, while they themselves are the servants of corruption" (2 Peter 2:18-19). They present liberty as independence from spiritual authority, accountability, discipline, and obedience to God's Word.

    Such teachings appeal to the flesh because they permit people to live according to their own desires while claiming the blessings of Christ. Instead of submitting to godly leadership, they become self-directed and unteachable. Instead of growing in holiness, they misuse grace as a cloak for sinful living.

    Biblical liberty is not freedom to do whatever we desire; it is freedom to obey God without the bondage of sin. Christ sets us free so that we may become servants of righteousness (Romans 6:18). The believer who rejects correction and accountability under the pretense of liberty is not walking in freedom but is gradually entering another form of bondage.

    The liberty Christ purchased is holy liberty, not fleshly independence. True freedom always produces greater obedience to God and greater love for His people.

Key Text: "It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry." (Proverbs 20:25, KJV)
   One common objection raised against biblical teaching on consecration, offerings, and holy things is that God does not care how people treat what has been dedicated to Him. However, Scripture consistently teaches that God distinguishes between the common and the sacred. Proverbs 20:25 warns that it is dangerous to treat holy things carelessly and then attempt to justify one's actions afterward.
   A powerful example is found in the account of Achan. God had devoted certain spoils of war at Jericho to destruction, but Achan secretly took some of the accursed items. As a result, Israel suffered defeat in battle at Ai. God declared, "Israel hath sinned" (Joshua 7:11-15). The presence of the accursed thing brought judgment and hindered God's blessing upon the entire nation. This demonstrates that violating what God has declared sacred carries consequences.
   The New Testament also teaches stewardship of things dedicated to God. Believers were instructed to systematically set aside a portion of their resources for God's work: "Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store" (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). Paul described these offerings as "an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God" (Philippians 4:18). What is dedicated to God should be treated with reverence and integrity.
   Furthermore, the Christian's body is sacred. Romans 12:1 commands believers to present their bodies as "a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God." Christians do not belong to themselves but have been set apart for God's purposes. Therefore, abuse of the body through sin, immorality, or destructive practices violates what God has consecrated.
   Jesus reinforced this principle when He healed the man at Bethesda and later warned him, "Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee" (John 5:14). This statement shows that persistent disobedience can lead to spiritual and even temporal consequences.
    The biblical evidence is clear: God takes seriously whatever has been dedicated to Him. Whether it is offerings, vows, possessions, or our own bodies, the sacred must not be treated as common. Proverbs 20:25 is therefore not a superstition but a timeless warning. Respect for God's holy things brings blessing, while contempt for them invites trouble. The wise believer honors God by faithfully stewarding everything that has been consecrated to His service.

This  biblical doctrine of the sacred is rooted in both the Old and New Testaments: God expects reverence toward whatever is dedicated to Him, and Scripture repeatedly shows that violating the sacred brings spiritual consequences.

REPENTANCE PRECEDES THE DEMONSTRATION OF GOD'S POWER

  "For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power." (1 Corinthians 4:20)

    The book of Acts reveals a clear pattern: repentance was preached before God's power was demonstrated. On the Day of Pentecost, Peter did not entertain the crowd with motivational speeches. He confronted their sin, exalted Christ, and called them to repentance. The result was that about three thousand souls were saved (Acts 2:38-41). We saw this in the ministry of the great Evangelist Reinhard Bonkke and Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa . 

    The early church understood that repentance opens the door for God's transforming power. Peter later declared, "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out" (Acts 3:19). The apostles consistently preached repentance because they knew it was God's appointed means of bringing men into His kingdom (Acts 5:31; Acts 17:30).

    Many modern churches measure success by attendance figures, building projects, and financial income. Yet heaven measures success by transformed lives. A church may have thousands of members and still lack the visible manifestation of God's power if sin is tolerated and repentance neglected. God does not confirm compromise; He confirms His Word (Mark 16:20).

     The power displayed in the ministry of the apostles flowed from their unwavering commitment to the gospel of repentance and faith. Signs, wonders, healings, and deliverances followed the preaching of Christ crucified and risen again. Paul resolved to know nothing among the Corinthians except "Jesus Christ, and him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:2-5). Therefore, his ministry was accompanied by demonstrations of the Spirit and power.

    The Church must return to the message of the Cross, holiness, repentance, and righteousness. When these truths are boldly proclaimed, God will once again confirm His Word with signs following, and the world will witness the reality of His Kingdom.

Lord Jesus, restore the power of the Cross in Your Church. Help us preach repentance without compromise and demonstrate Your Kingdom through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Good -Life Devotional: THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS IS THE POWER OF GOD

   "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." (1 Corinthians 1:18)

   The central message of Christianity is not self-improvement, prosperity, popularity, or church membership. The heart of the gospel is the Cross of Jesus Christ. Paul declared that the preaching of the cross is the power of God unto salvation. The Greek word translated "power" is dunamis, meaning miraculous power, mighty works, and divine ability.

   The message of the cross confronts human pride and calls sinners to repentance. It demands that men abandon their sinful lifestyles and submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This is why many reject it. The natural man prefers a gospel that promises benefits without repentance, blessings without holiness, and heaven without surrender. Yet Jesus began His ministry with the words: "Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Matthew 4:17). He commanded His disciples to proclaim the same message (Mark 6:12).

   Today, many churches have adopted a seeker-sensitive approach that emphasizes attendance, membership, and financial contributions while minimizing repentance. Such preaching may attract crowds, but it cannot produce the transforming power of God. Motivational speeches may entertain audiences, but they do not convict sinners of sin nor bring genuine conversion.

    The apostles never separated salvation from repentance. Peter preached repentance on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:38) and again at Solomon's Porch (Acts 3:19). The Cross exposes sin, reveals God's righteousness, and calls men to turn from darkness to light (Acts 26:18).

    Whenever the message of the cross is faithfully proclaimed, God's power follows. Christ Himself is "the power of God, and the wisdom of God" (1 Corinthians 1:24).

Grant me boldness to proclaim repentance and righteousness in Jesus' name. Amen.

“And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)
    The Kingdom of God is not advanced merely through eloquent speeches, persuasive arguments, or intellectual brilliance. While sound teaching is important, biblical ministry must be accompanied by the demonstration of God's power. The Apostle Paul deliberately avoided relying on human wisdom so that believers would place their confidence in God rather than in gifted speakers.
    Paul's ministry in Cyprus provides a powerful example. When the sorcerer Elymas attempted to hinder the gospel, Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, pronounced judgment upon him, causing temporary blindness. The result was remarkable: the government official, Sergius Paulus, believed the gospel, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord (Acts 13:6-12). The miracle confirmed the truth of the message. Doctrine and divine power worked together to bring salvation.
   Likewise, Moses delivered Israel not only through teaching God's commandments but also through mighty signs and wonders. God declared, “I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders” (Exodus 3:20). Through the plagues, the Red Sea crossing, and other miracles, Israel learned that the Lord alone is God.
   Throughout Scripture, God confirms His Word with power. Jesus taught with authority and demonstrated God's Kingdom through miracles (Matthew 4:23; Luke 4:36). The apostles followed the same pattern (Mark 16:20; Hebrews 2:3-4).
    God still desires His people to proclaim His truth with boldness while depending upon the Holy Spirit for divine confirmation. The goal is not to impress people but to bring them into genuine faith in Christ.

YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS MONEY AND THE MIRACULOUS POWER OF GOD. ( PART 1)

Text: Philippians 4:15-18; 2 Corinthians 8:1-5; 1 Corinthians 4:20
.   The attitude of a believer toward money can either facilitate or hinder his participation in God's kingdom purposes. Throughout Scripture, God consistently demonstrates that those who place His kingdom above material possessions become channels through whom His power flows.
    The church at Philippi stands as a remarkable example. Apostle Paul testified that when he began his missionary journeys, "not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only" (Philippians 4:15). Though not wealthy, the Philippians repeatedly supported Paul in Thessalonica and later while he was imprisoned. Their giving was not merely financial assistance; Paul described it as "a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God" (Philippians 4:18).
    Likewise, the Macedonian churches understood that advancing the gospel was a privilege. Despite deep poverty, they pleaded with Paul to receive their gifts (2 Corinthians 8:1-5). They recognized that God's kingdom is not built by words alone but by power (1 Corinthians 4:20).
    A heart enslaved by money struggles to experience the fullness of God's power because its trust is divided. The Philippians, however, demonstrated that their confidence was in God rather than in earthly possessions. Their generosity revealed their partnership (koinonia) with the gospel and with God's servant.
    The miraculous power of God is often at home where selfishness has been conquered and where believers willingly invest in the salvation of souls. Giving becomes an act of worship, faith, and participation in God's eternal purposes.

COVENANT PROMISE FOR PROTECTION FROM TERRORISM (Part 2)

Text: Psalm 121:7-8; 2 Thessalonians 3:3

    God's covenant promises are not merely words of comfort; they are declarations of His faithful character. The believer's security rests not in circumstances but in the faithfulness of God. Paul wrote, "The Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil" (2 Thessalonians 3:3). Our protection is rooted in the Lord's faithfulness, not in our own strength.

    Psalm 121 reminds us that God is the Keeper of His people. "The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul" (Psalm 121:7). The Hebrew word translated "preserve" (shamar) means to guard, watch over, protect, and keep secure. It portrays God as a vigilant guardian who never sleeps nor slumbers (Psalm 121:4).

   When nations face insecurity and terrorist threats, believers are called to pray, trust God, and support righteous leadership. Fear is one of the chief weapons of terrorism, but faith is the believer's response. Jesus taught His disciples not to be troubled by alarming events because God remains sovereign over human affairs (John 16:33).

    The church must also serve as a light in troubled times, proclaiming hope, encouraging the fearful, and interceding for communities and nations. God's protection is not given merely for personal comfort but so that His people may continue advancing His kingdom and bearing witness to His goodness.

   The covenant God who protected Israel, delivered Daniel from lions, and preserved Paul through many dangers is still able to keep His people today.

PROTECTION FROM TERRORISM (Part 1)

Text: Psalm 91:1-7; Isaiah 54:17
    The world is increasingly confronted with violence, terrorism, and organized wickedness. Yet God's covenant people are not left without assurance. The Lord has given precious promises of protection to those who trust in Him. Psalm 91 opens with a covenant invitation: "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (Psalm 91:1). The Hebrew word for "shadow" (tsel) conveys the idea of divine covering, defense, and preservation.
    The psalmist specifically mentions protection from "the terror by night" (Psalm 91:5), a phrase that includes threats, fear, violence, and attacks that arise unexpectedly. While terrorism seeks to spread fear and instability, God calls His people to live by faith rather than fear. The believer's confidence is not in human security systems alone but in the Lord who watches over His people day and night.
   Isaiah 54:17 further strengthens this covenant promise: "No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper." This does not mean believers will never face danger, but it assures us that no evil plan can ultimately frustrate God's purpose for our lives. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly delivered His people from hostile forces, proving Himself to be a faithful Protector.
    As we remain in fellowship with God, walk in obedience, and continually seek His presence, we can rest in the confidence that our lives are in His hands. The covenant-keeping God remains our refuge in every generation.

GOD'S SERVANTS HAVE ACCESS TO SENSITIVE AND PRIVILEGED INFORMATION

   One of the remarkable privileges of serving God is access to information that is hidden from ordinary human understanding. God reveals secrets to His faithful servants for the protection, guidance, and advancement of His kingdom. In 2 Kings 6:12, when the king of Syria wondered how Israel continually escaped his military plans, one of his servants declared, "Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber." God had granted Elisha access to sensitive and privileged information concerning the enemy's secret strategies.
   This divine principle remains true today. God is not limited by physical barriers or human secrecy. According to 1 Corinthians 4:5, the Lord "will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts." Nothing is concealed from His sight. He knows motives, intentions, and plans before they are executed.
    However, access to divine secrets carries responsibility. 2 Corinthians 4:2 commands believers to renounce dishonesty and walk in truth. God's servants must never misuse confidential information for personal gain, manipulation, or revenge. Instead, such revelations must be handled with integrity and wisdom.
   Elisha used the information God revealed to save Israel from destruction and to preserve God's covenant people. Likewise, every revelation, insight, or privileged knowledge entrusted to God's servants should be employed for the welfare of God's people, the spread of the gospel, and the glory of Christ.

   Many believers desire supernatural power, yet Scripture reveals that divine power flows through disciplined servants who are wholly devoted to God. Elijah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Micah, and the Apostle Paul were not extraordinary because of natural ability; they were extraordinary because of their unwavering loyalty to God.

    God told Jeremiah, "See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant" (Jeremiah 1:10). Though Jeremiah was young, God's Word in his mouth carried authority over nations.

Similarly, Micah testified, "But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression" (Micah 3:8). Genuine spiritual power is not merely demonstrated in miracles but also in courageously confronting sin and ungodliness.

     The Apostle Paul displayed this authority in Acts 13:8-12 when he rebuked Elymas the sorcerer. Speaking in faith and under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul pronounced judgment, and God immediately confirmed his words.

    The difference between many modern believers and the prophets of old is not access to power. The same Holy Spirit lives in us. The difference is often discipline, obedience, and faith. Faith is more than belief; it is steadfast loyalty to God's Word regardless of opposition.

    Our generation needs believers with the conviction of Isaiah, the courage of Jeremiah, the holiness of Micah, and the faith of Elijah. The power is available; the challenge is whether we will embrace the discipline required to walk in it.

GOD CONFIRMS THE WORD OF HIS SERVANTS

Text: Isaiah 44:26; 1 Kings 17:1

"Who confirms the word of His servant, and performs the counsel of His messengers..." (Isaiah 44:26).

     The Hebrew word translated "confirms" in Isaiah 44:26 is קוּם (qum), meaning to establish, fulfill, cause to stand, make effective, or bring to pass.     God is the One who causes the declarations of His faithful servants to stand firm and become reality.

    This principle is vividly demonstrated in the ministry of Elijah. Standing before King Ahab, Elijah declared, "There shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word" (1 Kings 17:1). Though Elijah was a man like other men, God honored his declaration because it was rooted in divine authority and covenant faithfulness. James 5:17-18 confirms that God backed Elijah's words with supernatural power.

    However, God does not confirm every prophetic utterance. He refused to honor the lies of Hananiah, who contradicted God's message through Jeremiah. Because Hananiah spoke presumptuously, God judged him, and he died according to the word of the Lord (Jeremiah 28:15-17).

     The secret of prophetic authority is not eloquence but faithfulness. God's servants must be saturated with His Word. David declared, "My tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long" (Psalm 35:28). Likewise, the Spirit of Jesus said, "He whom God has sent speaks the words of God" (John 3:34).

     God confirms the words of servants who consistently speak His truth, uphold righteousness, and refuse compromise. Heaven still backs men and women whose loyalty to God is greater than their desire for human approval.

   The tribe of Dan provides a remarkable example of people who understood the value of prophetic ministry. Although God had promised them an inheritance, they struggled to possess it fully. During their search for territory, they encountered the Levite serving in Micah's house and sought divine counsel from him (Judges 18:5). The prophetic teacher discerned God's direction and declared, "Go in peace: before the LORD is your way wherein ye go" (Judges 18:6). The result was success and territorial enlargement.

   What distinguished the Danites was their ability to recognize the anointing. They discerned that God's counsel was operating through this teacher. Many miss divine opportunities because they fail to value those whom God has sent to guide them. Proverbs 20:12 declares, "The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them." Spiritual discernment is essential for prosperity.

    Later, the Danites invited the Levite to minister to a larger community (Judges 18:18-20). This illustrates an important kingdom principle: faithful stewardship of spiritual resources attracts greater opportunities. Those who value God's servants position themselves for greater blessings.

The Macedonian believers demonstrated the same understanding. Though afflicted by deep poverty, they supported the ministry of Apostle Paul generously (2 Corinthians 8:1-5). They realized that the spread of sound teaching was essential for the advancement of God's purposes. Their giving flowed from gratitude for the hope and spiritual riches they had received.

Scripture repeatedly teaches believers to care for those who minister God's Word. "Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel" (1 Corinthians 9:14). Likewise, "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour" (1 Timothy 5:17-18).

In an age of confusion, righteous prophetic teachers remain indispensable. Pray for them, discern them carefully, honor them, and support them faithfully. Through their ministry, God provides wisdom, protection, direction, and prosperity to His people.

   During the dark era of the Judges, Israel experienced social disorder, moral confusion, and failed leadership. The recurring statement, "Every man did that which was right in his own eyes" (Judges 21:25), summarizes the spiritual chaos of the period. In such uncertain times, God preserved His people by raising prophetic teachers who communicated His will and provided moral direction.

     Micah recognized t

he value of such a ministry when he encountered a young Levite. Rather than treating him casually, he welcomed him into his home, provided for his needs, and established him in ministry (Judges 17:10-12). Micah understood that the presence of a genuine servant of God was a blessing. Consequently, he declared, "Now know I that the LORD will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest" (Judges 17:13).

    Throughout Scripture, prosperity is often linked to receiving and honoring God's messengers. King Jehoshaphat proclaimed, "Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper" (2 Chronicles 20:20). God uses prophetic teachers as instruments of instruction, correction, wisdom, and direction.

     Jesus Himself acknowledged the scarcity of such laborers. He said, "The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few" (Matthew 9:37-38). These laborers are not merely workers but teachers who tirelessly labor in the Word and doctrine (1 Timothy 5:17).

While false prophets abound (Matthew 24:11), genuine prophetic teachers still exist. Believers must prayerfully seek them, discern them by their fruits (Matthew 7:15-20), and support their ministry. As Galatians 6:6 commands, "Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things." Where God's Word is faithfully taught, divine guidance and lasting prosperity follow.

   Isaiah declared that because God’s people rejected knowledge, captivity, humiliation, and destruction would follow. Verse 14 gives a frightening picture: “Therefore hell hath enlarged herself…” When truth is abandoned, darkness advances aggressively. Entire societies become vulnerable to demonic influence, violence, confusion, and spiritual bondage.
   One of the greatest protections against societal decay is the intentional and rigorous teaching of Scripture. Throughout history, genuine biblical teaching has transformed nations. A powerful example is John Calvin whose ministry in Geneva helped transform Switzerland during the Protestant Reformation. Through systematic teaching of Scripture, public morality improved, education advanced, discipline was restored, and society experienced long-term stability that still influences parts of Europe today. This demonstrates that sound doctrine is not merely theological discussion; it is the foundation for societal reform.
   Sadly, many modern Christians neglect this truth. Churches often celebrate entertainment more than discipleship. Large resources are devoted to activities with little eternal value, while teachers of righteousness struggle without encouragement or support. As teaching declines, deception rises. The result is evident across many African nations today especially Nigeria : increasing occultism, crime, terrorism, corruption, immorality, and fear. Isaiah warned that even prominent people would be humbled (Isaiah 5:15). Wealth, political power, and military strength cannot save a nation that rejects divine truth.
   God still seeks believers who will promote biblical knowledge through prayer, giving, missions, and discipleship. Every Christian has a responsibility to strengthen the teaching ministry so future generations will not perish in ignorance.
  Romans 10:14 asks, “How shall they hear without a preacher?” The preservation of a nation depends greatly on the presence of teachers of righteousness who boldly proclaim God’s truth without compromise.

Text: Isaiah 5:1-15
   The prophet Isaiah warned of a coming season of judgment upon a people who neglected God despite His abundant blessings. Isaiah 5 reveals that one major cause of captivity was not merely military weakness or economic hardship, but a tragic lack of spiritual knowledge. “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge…” (Isaiah 5:13). This ignorance was not accidental; it was cultivated by a generation that prioritized pleasure over the teaching of God’s Word.
   Isaiah described people who delighted in banquets, music, and social celebrations while disregarding the works of God (Isaiah 5:12). In the same way today, many professing Christians spend heavily on ceremonies, entertainment, and personal comfort while neglecting the support of missionaries, Bible teachers, and sound doctrinal instruction. Yet Scripture commands believers to support the teaching ministry. Galatians 6:6 declares, “Let him who is taught the word share all good things with him who teaches.” Likewise, 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 teaches systematic giving for the work of God.
    When the teaching ministry is neglected, genuine teachers become frustrated, exhausted, and rejected. Paul experienced this in Galatia and cried out, “Have I therefore become your enemy because I tell you the truth?” (Galatians 4:16). The same tragedy is visible in Nigeria and many African nations today. There is a growing scarcity of teachers of sound doctrine, while false teachings, superstition, occultism, and demonic oppression increase rapidly.
    Hosea 4:6 warns, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Spiritual ignorance eventually produces societal collapse. Terrorism, moral decay, corruption, and violence flourish where righteousness is no longer taught with authority.

   The influence of John Calvin extended beyond theology into governance and social reform. His biblical teachings helped establish principles that later contributed to democratic thought, public welfare, and accountability in government.    Calvin believed that both church and state should operate under God’s moral law while maintaining distinct responsibilities.

    Scripture teaches that leaders are accountable to God:

“He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.” — 2 Samuel 23:3

    In Geneva, church leaders and civil authorities cooperated to improve public life. Hospitals were established, prisons were reformed, sanitation improved, and organized care for the poor became part of civic responsibility.

    SOCIETAL ACHIEVEMENTS INSPIRED BY CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES

1)  Public Welfare And Care For The Poor

 Christian compassion led to organized assistance for widows, refugees, and the needy.

“Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.” — Psalm 82:3

2) Moral Accountability In Society

Calvin strongly opposed corruption, blasphemy, and moral decay, emphasizing holiness in both private and public life.

“Be ye holy; for I am holy.” — 1 Peter 1:16

3) Foundation for Democratic Governance

Calvin’s teaching that unjust rulers could be resisted influenced later constitutional and democratic systems in Europe and beyond.

“Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” — 2 Corinthians 3:17

4) Global Christian Influence

His writings shaped Reformed, Presbyterian, and Congregational churches worldwide, influencing cultures far beyond Switzerland.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.” — Matthew 5:14

   Switzerland is ranked one of the best places to do business in the world because of a zero tolerance for corruption and beat practices in all Spheres of the society. The story of Geneva shows that when biblical truth shapes hearts, it can also transform education, economics, governance, and national destiny. Christian writings are not merely theological documents; they are instruments God can use to reform societies and preserve righteousness across generations.

  In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and an increase in the number and prosperity of Christian writers .
