Good -Life Devotional:
THERE IS ONLY ONE MEDIATOR BETWEEN GOD AND MAN, AND IT ISN'T MARY
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
The Bible clearly states in 1 Timothy 2:5 (AMP): "For there is [only] one God, and [only] one Mediator between God and mankind, the Man Christ Jesus." The Greek word for mediator is "mesitēs" (μεσίτης), meaning one who intervenes between two to restore peace—a go-between. Jesus alone qualifies as this mediator due to His sinless nature and atoning sacrifice.
Mary, though highly favored (Luke 1:28), does not qualify as a mediator for the following reasons:
1) MARY WAS A SINNER IN NEED OF SALVATION. She acknowledged this in Luke 1:47, "My spirit rejoices in God my Savior." Only sinners need a Savior.
2) SHE WAS NOT OMNISCIENT OR OMNIPRESENT. Only Christ has the divine capacity to hear all prayers (Hebrews 4:15-16).
3) JESUS NEVER DIRECTED ANYONE TO PRAY THROUGH MARY. Instead, He taught us to pray to the Father in His name (John 14:13-14).
4) THE EARLY CHURCH NEVER TAUGHT MARY AS A MEDIATOR. Apostolic teaching focused solely on Christ as the way to the Father (John 14:6; Acts 4:12).
5) MARY NEEDED TO BE BORN AGAIN. In Acts 1:14, she was among the disciples waiting for the Holy Spirit. She was part of the 120 in Acts 2:1-4 who received the Spirit—evidence she had to be regenerated like everyone else (John 3:3).
Salvation is in Christ alone. Elevating Mary as mediator is unbiblical an abomination before God (Luke16;15) and detracts from the sufficiency of Jesus' finished work.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and the revelation of Jesus Christ .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome stagnation.
