You shall not labour in vain because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.
Good -Life Devotional: BE PERSISTENT IN PRAYER FOR BREAKTHROUGHS
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Persistence in prayer is a vital principle for experiencing spiritual and practical breakthroughs. In 1 Kings 18:42–45, Elijah fervently prayed for rain after a long drought. Though there was no immediate visible result, he did not stop. Instead, he sent his servant to look toward the sea seven times until a small cloud appeared. This teaches that persistent prayer must be accompanied by spiritual alertness. Scripture exhorts us to watch and pray (Matthew 26:41); while praying, we should remain attentive to signs of change that indicate God is at work, even if the evidence seems small at first.
Jesus affirmed the authority of persistent, faith-filled prayer when He declared, “Whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven” (Matthew 18:18). Elijah exercised this authority earlier when he prayed that there would be no rain, and for over three years there was none (James 5:16–18). The same passage emphasizes that Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, reminding believers that the born-again Christian in Christ carries the same spiritual authority.
Some believers hesitate, feeling unworthy to pray boldly. Yet Scripture assures us that Christ “became wisdom from God… righteousness” for us (1 Corinthians 1:30). We are justified by His grace (Titus 3:7) and by His blood (Romans 5:9). Therefore, righteousness is a gift, not a barrier.
Jesus Himself modeled persistence when He prayed the same words repeatedly in Gethsemane (Matthew 26:44). Likewise, Daniel continued praying until deliverance came for Israel (Daniel 10:12–14). Jesus also taught that men ought always to pray and not lose heart (Luke 18:1). Persistent prayer positions the believer for divine intervention and lasting breakthroughs.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and persistence in faith.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for extraordinary Breakthroughs.
