Good -Life Devotional: GIVING SATAN LEGAL GROUNDS TO HINDER OUR PRAYERS
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Zechariah 3:1–5 gives a sobering picture of spiritual reality. Joshua the high priest stood before the Angel of the Lord, yet Satan stood at his right hand to accuse him. Despite Joshua’s sacred office, Satan found legal grounds to resist him because Joshua was clothed in filthy garments—symbolic of sin and self-righteous religion. This reveals a vital truth: position alone does not silence the accuser; righteousness does.
Sin gives Satan legal access to hinder our prayers. Isaiah 59:1–2 declares that God’s hand is not shortened that He cannot save, nor His ear heavy that He cannot hear, but our iniquities separate us from Him. One subtle but dangerous sin is self-righteousness—trusting in personal goodness while being hypercritical of others. Isaiah 64:6 (AMP) reminds us that “all our righteous acts are like filthy rags.” When we rely on man-made religion instead of God’s grace, we empower accusation.
In Zechariah 3:4–5, God intervened. The filthy garments were removed, and Joshua was clothed with clean robes and a pure turban. This act shows that only God can remove guilt and silence Satan. Victory came not through self-effort but through divine cleansing.
Scripture calls us to examine ourselves honestly. Where are we living in disobedience, even though God’s Word has already made it will clear? Such disobedience hands Satan permission to resist our prayers. 1 John 5:18 assures us that the one born of God is kept by Him, and the evil one does not touch him—but this protection is walked out in obedience.
James 4:7 instructs us to “submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee.” Submission comes first. Satan is only as powerful in our lives as the ground we give him. Repentance, humility, and faith in Christ restore our authority and reopen the heavens over our prayers.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and purity in living .
PRAYERS: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome sin .
