Good -Life Devotional: WHEN BAD GOVERNANCE BREAKS THE HOME
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
The Bible shows that leadership affects the moral and social condition of a nation. In Isaiah 3:12, the prophet lamented the collapse of righteous leadership in Judah. Corrupt and irresponsible governance brought oppression, confusion, poverty, and suffering upon the people. When leaders fail, families suffer first.
Isaiah further described how societal decay affected women. In Isaiah 3:16-24, many women became consumed with outward survival, vanity, and desperate pursuits because the nation itself was under judgment and disorder. Economic hardship, insecurity, and broken systems often push people into compromising situations. Even today, bad governance can delay marriages, destroy responsible young men through unemployment and frustration, and push some women toward immoral relationships for financial survival.
God never intended society to function this way. Scripture says, “Righteousness exalts a nation” (Proverbs 14:34). When justice disappears, homes become unstable. Ecclesiastes 10:16-17 warns about nations ruled by immature or careless leaders, while 1 Timothy 2:1-2 teaches believers to pray for leaders so people may live peaceful and dignified lives.
Yet God still calls His people to holiness despite difficult conditions. Ruth remained virtuous in hardship, and God honored her with restoration (Ruth 3:11). Believers must resist desperation, maintain godly character, and trust God’s provision.
Pray for righteous leadership, economic justice, and restored families. A nation guided by wisdom creates an atmosphere where marriages flourish, women are honored, and homes are strengthened under God’s blessing.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to reconcile broken families .
