THE HOLY SPIRIT AND GOOD GOVERNANCE

   "But as the believers rapidly multiplied, there were rumblings of discontent. The Greek-speaking believers complained about the Hebrew-speaking believers, saying that their widows were being discriminated against in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility." Acts of the Apostles 6:1‭-‬3 NLT

    "But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed. The king said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is the greatest of gods, the Lord over kings, a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this secret.” Daniel 2:28‭, ‬47 NLT

    The greatest need for proper governance is the need for wise planning in the execution of people oriented policies  especially on the long term basis. Most countries in Africa suffer from poverty not because of a curse from God but the inability to plan for the future and the dishonesty of the leaders . Nigeria discovered crude oil before the UAE with more money than the later but struggles under poverty and gross infrastructural deficit. The difference is that the leaders in the UAE saw today over forty years ago and honestly and wisely  prepared. This is a gift from God. It requires resisting the tendency to  misappropriate public funds .

    Daniel was operating in the gifts of word of wisdom and knowledge by the Holy Spirit (1 Cor.12:8) and was instrumental in the interpretation of government policies in to beneficial projects .The same could be said of Joseph in Egypt (Gen41) , Mordecai and Esther ( Esther Chapters 8,9 . )

  When preachers allow themselves to be led by the Holy Spirit and destroy selfishness and covetousness  they will end up producing politicians whose leadership will bring joy , peace and prosperity. Greedy preachers produce greedy politicians resulting in bribery, stealing, poverty and  insecurity in the country . 

   The early church instituted a rule by which proper governance could be attained " , seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;" Acts 6:3 NKJV  Preachers are not expected to endorse a candidate based on their promise to favour the pastor and his or her infinitesimal ministry. The criteria for holding a public office is clearly written in the scriptures (Acts 6:3) but for selfish reasons preachers neglect God's word to the detriment of the poor masses . Poverty is the product of a corrupt clergy  and bad governance  by dishonest leaders and God shall punish them ( Isaiah 9:12-16)

   We should daily pray that the lord raises more  Daniels, Josephs, Mordecais , Esthers in public offices. You can be one . They were  led by the Holy Spirit , resulting in the deliverance of God's people from oppression and poverty .  

Prayer : Heavenly father forgive me of my sins against you  I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as Lord and savior and receive the Holy Spirit and power for exemplary leadership in Jesus name.
