Good -Life Devotional:

SPIRITISM IS NOT SPIRITUALITY

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

1 Corinthians 10:21

"Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils."

  1 Timothy 4:1

" Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;"

'Desperate times calls for desperate actions " is a quote often used by persons seeking immediate results when faced with extreme poverty and difficulties. This has opened the door to the proliferation of the activities of demonic spirits with most deguising as ministers or messengers of God.  This trend has created a yearning for spirituality outside God's word  with many delving into Spiritism. You cannot mix light with darkness . There are preachers who practice occultism and worship of mediums in a bid to appear as being successful in ministry. They have sold their souls to the devil .

Spiritism and spirituality, though often conflated, are distinct concepts. Spiritism refers to a belief in communication with the spirits of the dead or non-corporeal entities, often through mediums or other practices. Spirituality, in the Christian sense, is about connecting with God through His Holy Spirit and living according to His will, guided by Scripture and prayer.

Colossians 2:19-23 warns against false teachings and practices that rely on "visions" and other mystical experiences, not holding fast to Christ. Paul admonishes believers to remain rooted in Christ, who is the head of the Church. This reflects how Spiritism, focused on contact with spirits, can lead people away from the truth in Christ.

1 Kings 18:26-29 describes the futile attempts of the prophets of Baal to summon their god through loud cries and self-harm, contrasting with God’s true power shown through Elijah. Similarly, Spiritism seeks supernatural experiences outside of God's will.

In 1 Kings 19:10-13, Elijah encounters God not in a dramatic display but in a still small voice, showing that God’s presence is not found through spiritual sensationalism.

Finally, Acts 16:16-18 tells of a spirit of divination, which Paul rebukes in the name of Jesus. This reinforces the idea that such spiritual practices are contrary to God's purposes.

In your daily prayers  seek for a healthy relationship with the Holy Spirit based on his fruits and gifts and an appetite for word .

PRAYERS : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power for discernment of spirits .
