Good -Life Devotional: CHRISTIANS: DEFENDERS OF THE CONSTITUTION

Psalm 37:30 declares, "The mouth of the righteous proclaims wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice." The word “judgment” in Hebrew is “mishpat” (מִשְׁפָּט), meaning justice, ordinance, or rightful decision. This aligns with the purpose of a nation's constitution—to establish laws that uphold justice, equality, and fairness for all citizens.

    Christians have a biblical mandate to ensure governance reflects righteousness and justice. The Old Testament showcases figures like Daniel, Joseph, and Mordecai, who played crucial roles in shaping laws that protected God's people. Joseph implemented policies in Egypt to preserve life (Genesis 41:33-40), Daniel influenced Babylonian leadership with wisdom (Daniel 6:3-5), and Mordecai guided laws that safeguarded the Jews (Esther 8:7-8).

   The New Testament church also structured governance to promote justice. Acts 6:1-7 describes the appointment of deacons to ensure fair distribution of resources, preventing discrimination. Paul instructs believers to advocate for righteousness in leadership, stating, “Let everything be done decently and in order” (1 Corinthians 14:40). Proverbs 29:2 reminds us, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice.”

   Christians today should engage in constitution drafting, ensuring laws protect all citizens and prevent oppression (Micah 6:8). Biblical governance upholds fairness, and believers are called to be defenders of justice, influencing policies that reflect God’s wisdom. As Isaiah 1:17 exhorts, “Learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause.”

  In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and boldness to defend the constitution.

PRAYER : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome oppression.
