PRAY WITHOUT CEASING: A CALL FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
The Apostle Paul commands in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, “Pray without ceasing.” This isn’t just a personal discipline—it’s a divine strategy for change, especially in times when governance is unjust or oppressive. Silence in the face of injustice translates to acceptance. Jesus taught, “Whatever you bind (declare to be improper and unlawful) on earth shall have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have [already] been loosed in heaven” (Matthew 18:18, AMP). There is no neutral ground in spiritual matters; to remain passive is to allow evil to prevail.
The early Church understood this. In Acts 12:1-16, under King Herod’s tyranny, James was executed. Peter was next in line, but “prayer for him was being made fervently by the church to God” (Acts 12:5). Their unceasing intercession triggered angelic intervention and Peter’s miraculous escape. Heaven responds to bold, persistent prayer.
Psalm 103:20 affirms, “Bless the Lord, you His angels, mighty in strength, who perform His word, obeying the voice of His word!” Angels are activated by Word-filled prayers. Prayer is not passive—it is legislative in the spirit realm.
As James 5:16 declares, “The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much”. We must pray, protest in the spirit, and demand good governance. Do not stop praying until righteousness manifests. When we pray, God moves. Change comes. And His will is done on earth as it is in heaven.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and boldness to stand by truth.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome the forces of evil .
