Good -Life Devotional: REFUSAL TO SPEAK OUT AGAINST BAD GOVERNANCE LEADS TO MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY

   Silence in the face of oppression is complicity. Scripture consistently affirms that speaking out against injustice brings divine intervention and societal transformation. In Acts 6, the early Church confronted nepotism when Hellenistic Jews protested the neglect of their widows in food distribution. Their outcry prompted the appointment of Spirit-filled leaders, which not only resolved inequality but also catalyzed growth and unity—God’s provision flowed where justice prevailed.

     Similarly, in Nehemiah 5, Jews exploited fellow Jews during a famine. The cry of the oppressed reached Nehemiah, who acted swiftly to restore fairness. Once oppression was addressed, the community’s strength was restored, illustrating how advocacy breaks the chains of poverty.

    God’s heart responds to suffering voices. Exodus 3:7 says, “I have surely seen the affliction of My people...and have heard their cry...for I know their sorrows.” The Israelites’ deliverance began with their cry. Silence prolongs suffering; voicing injustice invites God’s rescue.

    David understood this, declaring in Psalm 55:16-18, “Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and He shall hear my voice.” His cry brought deliverance and peace amidst battle.

    Proverbs 31:8-9 urges, “Open your mouth for the speechless… plead the cause of the poor and needy.” Isaiah 58:6-11 ties breaking oppression to God’s blessing, light, and guidance.

    Inaction is agreement. If we desire change, we must speak. Our voice is a tool for justice, and heaven listens when we cry.

   In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and boldness to preach the gospel.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome oppression.
