Good -Life Devotional: AVOIDING BLOOD GUILT BY ASSOCIATION
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
"That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren."
The Bible warns against being partakers in the sins of others, especially when it involves the shedding of innocent blood. In Judges 9:24, God brought judgment upon the men of Shechem for aiding Abimelech, who murdered his seventy brothers. Though they did not wield the sword themselves, their support and agreement with evil made them guilty before God. Scripture teaches that association with bloodshed invites divine retribution, for “whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed” (Genesis 9:6).
Believers are therefore commanded to separate from any person, group, or organization known for violence or injustice. The Apostle Paul warned, “Do not be partakers of other men’s sins; keep yourself pure” (1 Timothy 5:22). Likewise, Proverbs 1:15-16 cautions, “My son, do not walk in the way with them... for their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.”
To avoid blood guilt by association, Christians must examine their alliances carefully. Supporting or REMAINING SILENT ABOUT VIOLENT ACTS IS A FORM OF CONSENT example the brutal murder of Christians by Muslim Jihadists in northern Nigeria. . God calls His people to stand for righteousness and peace, for “the Lord hates hands that shed innocent blood” (Proverbs 6:17). Holiness demands separation from every work of cruelty and injustice.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and boldness to speak against evil .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to defend the oppressed.
