BUY A SWORD — BE SPIRITUALLY ARMED”

Those who rise against you shall be put to shame because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.
Good -Life Devotional: “BUY A SWORD — BE SPIRITUALLY ARMED”

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Luke 22:36–38 (AMP)
“He said to them, ‘But now, he who has a money bag, take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.’ … And they said, ‘Lord, look, here are two swords.’ And He said to them, ‘It is enough.’”
It was legal and traditional for people of influence in that era to guard themselves with swords against robbers and harm . The physical exit of Jesus Christ would emboldimg the religious extremist to oppose the disciples . They were to trust the lord for their protection by whatever means legally possible.
In this solemn moment before His arrest, Jesus was not urging His disciples to take up physical arms, but to prepare for a new season of opposition and spiritual battle. When He first sent them out, He provided everything supernaturally. But now, He was about to be taken from them, and their mission would unfold in a world that would turn hostile toward the gospel.
The command to “buy a sword” symbolizes spiritual readiness, not violence. The true sword we must wield is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:17). Jesus’ rebuke to Peter in Matthew 26:52 confirms this — His kingdom advances not by bloodshed but by truth, prayer, and love.
In our own lives, Christ calls us to lay aside comfort (“sell your garment”) to gain conviction (“buy a sword”). Following Jesus requires sacrifice, vigilance, and spiritual discipline. The believer must be equipped with faith, courage, and scriptural knowledge to stand firm in an increasingly dark world.
Are you spiritually armed with God’s Word, or unprepared for the trials of faith? In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and preparedness to face the trials of life .
PRAYER; Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome evil .
Lord, help me to trade comfort for conviction. Strengthen me to stand firm in Your truth. Let Your Word be my sword against fear, sin, and deception. Amen.
