Good -Life Devotional:
YOU CANNOT FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION WITH CORRUPTION
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Corruption is a spiritual poison that destroys authority, clarity, and divine backing. Scripture shows again and again that no one practicing corruption can successfully fight evil. King Saul is the classic example. In 1 Samuel 15, Saul rejected the command of the Lord by sparing Agag and the best of the Amalekite livestock. Because he corrupted God’s instruction, God rejected him as king. From that point, Saul’s strength evaporated. He could not face Goliath; corruption had already defeated him. Only David—a man after God’s heart—could bring victory, proving that corruption cannot confront corruption.
Other Old Testament examples reinforce this truth. Achan’s sin in Joshua 7 brought defeat upon Israel at Ai. Israel could not win a small battle because hidden corruption was in the camp. Only after the sin was exposed and removed did victory return. Similarly, Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phinehas, were corrupt priests who abused their office (1 Samuel 2:12–17). Their corruption led to Israel’s defeat, the ark being captured, and their own deaths. King Solomon, though wise, fell into corruption through idolatry (1 Kings 11), causing God to announce the division of his kingdom. Corruption always leads to loss of authority and eventual collapse.
In the New Testament, the sons of Sceva failed to cast out a demon because their lives lacked spiritual integrity (Acts 19:13–16). As Paul teaches, “Our weapons are not carnal but mighty through God” (2 Corinthians 10:3–6). We cannot fight flesh with flesh, or evil with evil.
Victory requires purity. “Righteousness exalts a nation” (Proverbs 14:34), and “Blessed are the pure in heart” (Matthew 5:8). To defeat corruption, we must return to God in obedience and holiness. Only righteousness carries the power to overcome darkness.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and a functional electoral process for good governance.
PRAYER : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to preach righteousness.
