SCRIPTURAL SECRETS TO A HAPPY MARRIAGE ( Part 1)

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

1 Corinthians 1:10 'Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.' This scripture describes the spirituality in a marriage which is the bedrock of a family. Here are some factors needed for a happy marriage .

1. SPIRITUAL ALIGNMENT AND SHARED VISION – “Can two walk together unless they are agreed?” (Amos 3:3). Couples must walk in agreement with God’s will and share a common life direction especially your financial obligations to the Jesus Christ ( Galatians 6:6, 2cornthians 8:1-5, 1Corintians 16;1-2)

Prayer: Lord, unite our hearts under Your vision so we may walk together in purpose and harmony.

2. A GRATEFUL SPIRIT AND WORDS OF AFFIRMATION – “In everything give thanks.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Speaking appreciation daily strengthens love.

Prayer: Father, help us to express gratitude and affirm one another, so our marriage remains joyful.

3. FAITHFUL COMMITMENT ROOTED IN GOD – “The heart of her husband safely trusts her.” (Proverbs 31:11). Loyalty flows from trust built on God’s Word.

Prayer: Lord, make us faithful to each other and deepen our trust as we put our confidence in You.

4. WILLINGNESS TO ADJUST IN CHANGING SEASONS – “I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” (Philippians 4:11). Marriage thrives when spouses adapt with grace.

Prayer: Father, grant us humility and wisdom to adjust to life’s changes without strife.

5. WISDOM IN HANDLING EMOTIONS – “Be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.” (James 1:19). Emotional maturity prevents wounds and cultivates peace.

Prayer: Lord, teach us to manage our emotions and respond to each other with gentleness.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and love for one another.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to heal broken homes and communities.
