DELIVERANCE FROM BONDAGE BY BREAKING THE YOKE OF COMPROMISE AND COMPLACENCY

The anointing of God's favour upon you is restoring all that was lost .
Good -Life Devotional: DELIVERANCE FROM BONDAGE BY BREAKING THE YOKE OF COMPROMISE AND COMPLACENCY

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Spiritual bondage often begins when God’s people grow comfortable with compromise. In 1 Kings 13, we see a powerful example of how complacency within spiritual leadership can open the door to corruption. King Jeroboam had established false worship in Bethel, corrupting the altar of God and leading Israel into sin (1 Kings 12:28–33). Yet the tragedy is not only in the king’s rebellion, but also in the silence and compromise of those who should have defended the truth.
An old prophet lived in Bethel with his sons, witnessing the corruption surrounding the altar of God. Instead of confronting Jeroboam’s idolatry, he remained passive. Complacency allowed false worship to continue unchallenged. God then raised a young prophet from Judah who boldly prophesied judgment against the altar, declaring that God would expose and destroy the false system (1 Kings 13:2–5). This moment showed that God will always raise voices to confront unrighteousness when others remain silent.
Sadly, the old prophet later deceived the young prophet, causing him to disobey God’s command. The young prophet became a victim of the spiritual corruption around him, and judgment followed (1 Kings 13:24). This sobering story reveals that compromise in spiritual leadership can destroy both the deceiver and the deceived.
In many parts of Africa today, corruption in governance persists partly because the Church has often chosen comfort over confrontation. When preachers seek favor from corrupt leaders instead of speaking God’s truth, they repeat the failure seen in Bethel. Scripture warns, “Cry aloud, spare not; lift up your voice like a trumpet” (Isaiah 58:1 AMP). The Church must be a prophetic voice, not a partner in silence.
God still offers hope through repentance. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (AMP) declares: “…if My people who are called by My Name humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.”
Deliverance begins when believers reject compromise, confront unrighteousness, and return to God in humility.
PRAYER Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome temptation.
Lord, we repent for complacency, compromise, corruption, and silence in the face of injustice. Cleanse Your Church from fear, greed, and spiritual manipulation. Restore integrity to the pulpit and righteousness to leadership. Raise courageous voices who will proclaim Your truth without compromise. Heal our land as Your people turn back to You. Amen.
