Your family shall be far from disaster because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional: GRACE DOES NOT EXEMPT FROM RESPONSIBILITIES

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Grace is the unearned favor of God given through Jesus Christ. Its meaning is derived from the Greek word 'charis' and it means:  kindness or favor freely given, while it also carries the idea of divine empowerment to live according to God’s will. Grace saves us, but it never removes our responsibility to respond to God with obedient faith.

In James 2:14–26, Scripture confronts the error of a passive faith. James asks, “What use is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him?” (AMP). Genuine faith always produces action. Faith without works is not merely weak; the Bible says it is dead.

Many modern teachings wrongly suggest that because of the finished work of Jesus Christ, believers no longer have any responsibility toward obedience or righteous living. Yet the Bible clearly shows that grace does not cancel responsibility—it empowers it. Even demons believe that God exists, but their belief does not lead to obedience (James 2:19).

Abraham demonstrated living faith when he offered Isaac on the altar (Genesis 22;9). His action did not replace faith; it completed it. As James explains, “You see that faith was working together with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected” (James 2:22). Rahab also received grace, yet she acted by hiding the spies, proving that her faith was genuine ( Joshua 2:18,22, Joshua 6:23-25) .

The same pattern appears throughout Scripture. Ephesians 2:8–10 declares that we are saved by grace through faith, yet we are also “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” Likewise, Philippians 2:12–13 urges believers to work out their salvation while God works within them.

Grace saves, but obedient faith responds. True faith always produces works that honor God.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome sin.

Lord, thank You for Your grace through Jesus Christ. Help my faith to be living and active, producing obedience that glorifies You. Amen.
