BREAKING SPIRITUAL OPPRESSION

The stronghold of the enemy over your family shall be broken because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good-Life Devotional: BREAKING SPIRITUAL OPPRESSION

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Acts 10:38 declares, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with great power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (AMP).

This scripture unveils a profound truth: oppression is not merely political, economic, or social—it has a spiritual root. The Bible clearly identifies the devil as the source of oppressive systems, yet it also reveals Christ as the Deliverer.

In the Old Testament, Jezebel exemplified how satanic influence can infiltrate governance.    Through state-sponsored idolatry, she empowered 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah to suppress the worship of Yahweh (1 Kings 18:19). She slaughtered the Lord’s prophets, institutionalized false religion, and used intimidation to silence truth. Spiritual corruption in leadership produced national oppression. But God raised Elijah to confront that system on Mount Carmel. The dramatic victory demonstrated that demonic strongholds collapse when confronted by the power of the living God.

Today, spiritual strongholds can still hover over governance, the economy, and even the church. Corruption, injustice, fear, and moral compromise often reveal unseen influences at work. The answer is not despair but intercession. Scripture teaches that “the weapons of our warfare are not physical…but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses” (2 Corinthians 10:4 AMP). Through united prayer, repentance, and righteous action, the church dismantles spiritual altars that empower injustice.

Breaking oppression begins with proclaiming Christ’s lordship. Jesus already defeated the principalities through His death and resurrection (Colossians 2:15). As the church prays, fasts, and stands in truth, spiritual atmospheres shift. Just as Baal could not answer by fire, every counterfeit system must bow before the authority of Jesus Christ.

Let the church arise in bold faith. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17). Oppression must yield when believers enforce Christ’s victory through prayer and holy living.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to destroy evil strongholds .
