You shall not fall into the enemy's trap because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.
Good -Life Devotional: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT IS RECOMMENDED IN THE BIBLE AGAINST KIDNAPPING
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
kidnapping is explicitly punishable by death in the Bible, specifically within the Old Testament Mosaic Law. The Bible views kidnapping (man-stealing) as a severe crime equivalent to murder because it involves stealing a person's freedom and dignity, both of which are considered gifts from God.
Key biblical passages regarding this penalty include:
Exodus 21:16: "Whoever kidnaps a person, whether that person has been sold or is still held in possession, shall be put to death" (NRSV). This law applies regardless of whether the kidnapper intends to sell the victim or keep them as a slave.
Deuteronomy 24:7: "If a man is caught kidnapping one of his brothers among the Israelites and treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you" (NIV).
1 Timothy 1:9-10 (New Testament): While not providing a direct legal penalty, the New Testament continues this condemnation by listing "slave traders" (or man-stealers) alongside murderers and other lawless acts, indicating that this stance against kidnapping is sustained.
KEY DETAILS REGARDING THIS LAW:
INTENT: The penalty was absolute, covering the abduction of a person for sale, slavery, or if the victim was simply found in the kidnapper's possession.
WHY DEATH? The biblical rationale is that humans are created in God's image (Genesis 1:27). Stealing a person is an assault on that image and a violation of the sanctity of human life and liberty.
CONTEXT: These laws were intended to protect individuals from the trafficking and enslavement prevalent in the ancient Near East, upholding the value of personal freedom.
PRAYER ; Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I think him as lord and saviur and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome terror.
