Good -Life Devotional: BELIEVERS ARE SANCTIFIED ONCE AND FOR All
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
The Gospel reveals a powerful and liberating truth: believers are sanctified once and for all through the finished work of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:10 declares, “we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” The Greek word for sanctified, hēgiasμένοι (from hagiazō), means “to set apart, make holy, consecrate.” This is not a process dependent on human effort, but a completed act accomplished by Christ.
This truth is further strengthened in Hebrews 10:14: “For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” Here we see both a finished position and an ongoing experience. Positionally, the believer is perfected forever before God. Practically, we grow into what we already are. Sanctification is first a gift before it becomes a walk.
1 Corinthians 6:11 reminds us: “But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Notice the past tense—this is a completed reality for every believer. You are not trying to become sanctified; you are learning to live from that identity.
However, Hebrews 2:1 cautions us to “give the more earnest heed” so we do not drift away. This means we must stay grounded in this truth. Forgetting our sanctified status can lead to striving, guilt, and legalism.
Apologetically, this doctrine defends the sufficiency of Christ’s sacrifice. If sanctification were incomplete, it would imply His offering was insufficient. But Scripture affirms otherwise—His work is perfect and final.
Therefore, rest in this truth: you are set apart, made holy, and accepted. Live daily from the reality of who you already are in Christ.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome poverty.
