Good -Life Devotional:  FREEDOM FROM GAMBLING AND BETTING

   In Nigeria today, it is estimated that billions of naira—often over ₦2–₦3 billion daily—flow into betting companies. Nigerians are becoming poorer by that amount daily despite the little factions given as wins . It's like prostitutiom . Imagine if ₦2 billion a day were redirected: at ₦5 million to start a modest small-scale enterprise, about 400 businesses could be created daily. If each employed just 5 people, that’s 2,000 jobs every single day. What a transformation that would bring to families and communities. Yet, much of this wealth is lost chasing uncertain gain.

   Scripture warns clearly against the illusion of quick riches. “Wealth [not earned but won] hastily will dwindle, but he who gathers little by little will increase it” (Proverbs 13:11, AMP).   Gambling thrives on haste and impatience, but God’s pattern is diligence and steady growth. “He who is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own house” (Proverbs 15:27). What begins as a game often ends in financial strain and broken homes.

   Spiritually, gambling shifts trust from God to chance.Gamblers despise  the new testament tithes in Galatians 6:6 and 1 Corinthians 16:1-2 despite their importance in spiritual development and expansion of God's kingdom. Gambling dulls sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and opens doors to fear, anxiety, and bondage.    The Bible cautions, “Do not give the devil an opportunity” (Ephesians 4:27). Through addiction, the enemy gains ground—draining resources, fostering desperation, and impoverishing families.

God calls His people to faithful stewardship and contentment. “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10). True provision comes from Him: “It is He who gives you power to get wealth” (Deuteronomy 8:18).

   Freedom begins with surrender to Christ. As you turn away from gambling and renew your mind, His grace empowers you to walk in discipline and purpose. “So if the Son makes you free, then you are unquestionably free” (John 8:36).

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as Lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to prosper .
