TRUE WEALTH: FAITH AND LOVE OVER MATERIAL ACHIEVEMENT
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Human achievement, no matter how grand, holds no value before God if it is not rooted in faith and love. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:6 (AMP), “For [if we are] in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but only faith activated and expressed and working through love.” God measures our lives by our trust in Him and the love we extend to others—not by material possessions or worldly success.
The pursuit of earthly goods often leaves people feeling either empty or burdened by failure. However, Jesus Himself warns us in Luke 12:15, “Be on your guard against every form of greed, for not even when one has an overflowing abundance does his life consist of, nor is it derived from his possessions.” Our true purpose is found in seeking the eternal rather than the temporal.
Paul urges us in Colossians 3:2 (AMP) to, “Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].” Material blessings, while gifts from God, should never capture our hearts. As Psalm 62:10 advises, “If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.”
A life of faith, love, and devotion to God ensures eternal significance. With our affections set on things above, we can experience peace and fulfillment, regardless of earthly possessions. Remember, in Christ, you are complete (Colossians 2:10).
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and freedom from worldly lusts.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome a low self esteem.
