SOWING TO THE FLESH AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON SOCIETY

You shall not labour and someone else eat the fruits of your labour because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good -Life Devotional:

SOWING TO THE FLESH AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON SOCIETY

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Galatians 6:8 warns, “For the one who sows to his flesh will from the flesh reap destruction, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life” (AMP). Sowing to the flesh means pursuing selfish desires and sinful behaviors that gratify human nature apart from God’s will. Galatians 5:19-21 lists these works of the flesh: “sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like.”

Unfortunately, most church programs in Africa are designed to feed the flesh not the spirit , nothing or less is spoken about the righteousness of the believer and gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit.

When individuals and societies choose to sow to the flesh, the results are devastating. The breakdown of moral values leads to fractured families, increased crime, and societal discord. For example, unchecked greed and selfish ambition foster corruption and exploitation. Similarly, envy and hatred fuel conflicts, divisions, and wars. Proverbs 14:34 reminds us, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”

Moreover, personal consequences include alienation from God and spiritual decay. Romans 8:6 declares, “The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace.” Persistent sin leads to destruction, not only in this life but also in eternity (Romans 6:23).

However, society can experience restoration when individuals turn to God and sow to the Spirit. Repentance brings healing, as 2 Chronicles 7:14 states: “If My people...will humble themselves...then I will heal their land.” The choice to reject fleshly desires and embrace God’s ways transforms not only lives but entire communities.

In our prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and manifestations of the fruits of the Holy Spirit in our families and church

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to be fruitful.
