CORRUPTION THRIVES WHERE THERE ARE DIVINERS AND SOOTHSAYERS

The stronghold of witchcraft is broken because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.

Good-Life Devotional: CORRUPTION THRIVES WHERE THERE ARE DIVINERS AND SOOTHSAYERS

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi

Many Christians faced with problems in Africa  are quick to seek for persons who will  'see visions'  and  interpret dreams . This is as a result of the endemic level of poverty caused by a culture of corruption promoted by most religious leaders . These self acclaimed prophets and spiritualists are actually diviners and soothsayers. There are many of them on social media preying on the  ignorant daily .

Corruption thrives where diviners and soothsayers operate because they manipulate and exploit vulnerable minds for personal gain. Acts 16:16 describes a slave girl with a spirit of divination, who brought her masters much profit through fortune-telling. This illustrates how soothsayers often prey on people’s fears and desires, offering deceitful promises rather than godly wisdom.

The Apostle Peter warns in 2 Peter 2:19, “They promise them liberty, while they themselves are slaves of corruption.” Such individuals are servants of corruption, using their influence to lead others astray. By appealing to human curiosity and impatience, soothsayers capture the minds of many, fostering dependence on their services rather than on God.

In contrast, true prophets lead people to righteousness and obedience to God. Their message aligns with Scripture, which reveals God’s will. As Deuteronomy 18:10-12 warns, divination and soothsaying are detestable to God because they draw hearts away from Him.

Instead of seeking the services of soothsayers, believers are called to meditate on God’s Word (Psalm 1:2) and remain steadfast in prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:17). God’s truth, found in the Bible, is sufficient to guide us in all aspects of life. Pursuing righteousness through faith in Christ ensures that we are not ensnared by deception. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and reject the corruption that diviners and soothsayers bring.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and protection from the evil influence of soothsayers .

PRAYERS : Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome witchcraft.
