Good -Life Devotional: SO GREW THE WORD OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND IT PREVAILED

By Michael Benson Ajayi

In Acts 19:20, we read, “So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed” (AMP). The Greek word for “prevailed” is ischyō, meaning to have strength, power, or dominance. This signifies that the message of righteousness, rooted in the gospel of Christ, not only expanded in influence but also overcame cultural resistance, transforming lives and societies.

David echoes a similar sentiment in Psalm 35:28, where he declares, “And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long” (AMP). This verse reveals the believer's unwavering commitment to proclaim God’s righteousness until the spiritual atmosphere shifts. Through consistent declaration and faithful living, the Word of God begins to penetrate hearts and reshape communities.

The power of the Word to prevail is seen throughout Scripture. Isaiah 55:11 assures us, “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; it will not return to Me void, without accomplishing what I desire” (AMP). Similarly, Romans 1:16 highlights that the gospel is “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.” These verses emphasize the transformative capacity of the Word when spoken and lived.

As believers, we are called to continuously declare the righteousness of God, as David modeled. Like in Ephesus, where the Word triumphed over idolatry, our steadfast proclamation will usher in cultural and spiritual renewal. Let us persist in speaking His Word until it prevails in every sphere of life.

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and boldness to preach the gospel.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome poverty.
