HOW TO OVERCOME SELFISHNESS IN MARRIAGE (2)
By Michael Benson Ajayi
Ephesians 5:21-22,25,28
[21]Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
[22]Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
[25]Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
[28]So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.'
Selfishness is the major reason behind the failure in marriages and relationships. Here are more ways on how to overcome selfishness in your marriage or relationship.
5. CELEBRATE YOUR SPOUSE’S SUCCESS
Rejoice with your spouse’s victories instead of competing. Romans 12:10 says, “Honor one another above yourselves.”
6. SEEK GOD’S WORD TOGETHER
Reading the Bible as a couple reinforces selflessness. Psalm 119:105 reminds us that God’s Word is a lamp to guide our paths.
7. PRACTICE GRATITUDE
Thank God for your spouse daily (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Gratitude shifts your focus from yourself to the blessings in your marriage.
8. PRIORITIZE UNITY
Ephesians 4:3 urges us to “keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Strive to resolve conflicts quickly and protect your partnership.
By applying these principles, you can replace selfishness with Christlike love and nurture a thriving marriage.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and better ways on how to strengthen our relationships.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to heal the broken hearted.
