Good -Life Devotional: HOW DO THE PEOPLE IMAGINE A VAIN THING AGAINST THE ANOINTED?

   Psalm 2 opens with a piercing question: “Why do the nations rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?” (Ps. 2:1, AMP). Throughout history, corrupt politicians and heathen systems have drawn up strategies to exploit God’s people and scatter the Church of Christ. They oppose the Lord and His Anointed, believing their power, wealth, or numbers can overthrow God’s purpose. Yet heaven’s response is clear: “He who sits in the heavens laughs” (Ps. 2:4).
The Hebrew word translated “derision” in Psalm 2:4 is שָׂחַק (śāchaq / yischak), meaning to laugh, mock, or scoff. It pictures God calmly ridiculing the arrogance of the wicked. Their plots may look terrifying on earth, but before God they are empty, temporary, and doomed.
   Haman in the book of Esther imagined a wicked plan to destroy the Jews. He built gallows for Mordecai, yet through fasting and prayer, the strategy of Satan was overturned, and Haman was hanged on the very gallows he prepared (Esth. 7:10). Likewise, Herod planned to kill Peter after executing James, because it pleased unbelievers. But “prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God” (Acts 12:5). The plan failed, Peter was delivered by an angel, and Herod eventually died under judgment.
  God promises, “He frustrates the devices of the crafty” (Job 5:12–15). Therefore, believers must not be silent when wicked plans arise. Saying “it is well” without resistance gives Satan advantage. Scripture calls us to resist the devil (James 4:7), to watch and pray (Matt. 26:41), and to engage fasting that breaks yokes (Isa. 58:6). As we pray, God releases angels (Ps. 34:7), causes evil plans to backfire (Prov. 21:30), and guarantees victory for His Anointed and His people.
  We should seek a healthy appetite for God's word in our daily prayers and the destruction of the plans of the wicked .
