Good -Life Devotional: YOUR FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPIRITUAL ACCOUNTABILITY IN SPIRITUAL WARFARE
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Every believer is engaged in spiritual warfare, whether consciously or not (Ephesians 6:12). While prayer, fasting, and faith are essential weapons, Scripture also reveals that financial responsibility to spiritual authority is a powerful, often neglected dimension of victory. Some battles are too complex to fight alone; this is why God established spiritual accountability within the Church (Hebrews 13:17).
The churches of Macedonia provide a striking example. In 2 Corinthians 8:1–5, despite “extreme poverty,” they begged Paul for the privilege of giving. Their offering went far beyond expectation because they first gave themselves to the Lord and to apostolic authority. Their generosity was not merely charity—it was spiritual warfare.
In Philippians 4:13–18, Paul affirms that supernatural strength to endure and overcome comes through Christ, yet he also commends the Philippians for partnering with him financially. He describes their giving as “a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God” (v.18, AMP). This language echoes temple incense, revealing a spiritual reality.
Revelation 5:8 declares that golden bowls of incense are the prayers of the saints, and Revelation 8:3–5 shows incense mingled with prayer releasing divine judgments and angelic action. Offerings, aligned with prayer and obedience, become spiritual incense—fuel for heavenly intervention. In this sense, they function like spiritual explosives God authorizes angels to deploy on behalf of His people.
Satan fiercely resists believers from honoring spiritual authority financially because of its extraordinary power (Malachi 3:10–11). Scripture affirms, “Those who are taught the word must share all good things with their teacher” (Galatians 6:6), and “God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7). Financial obedience is not loss—it is warfare, worship, and wisdom.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and a generous spirit.
