VICTORY THROUGH SPIRITUAL ACCOUNTABILITY

You shall not be disgraced because of the anointing of God's favour upon you.
Devotional: VICTORY THROUGH SPIRITUAL ACCOUNTABILITY

By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Exodus 17 records a powerful truth about victory in battle. As Israel fought Amalek, the outcome did not depend solely on swords in the valley but on spiritual authority on the hill. “When Moses held up his hand [with the staff of God], Israel prevailed” (Exodus 17:11, AMP). When Moses grew weary, Aaron and Hur supported his hands. Victory was preserved through accountability, partnership, and submission to God-ordained leadership.
This same principle appears in Isaiah’s intervention during Assyria’s invasion. When King Hezekiah faced the terrifying threats of Sennacherib, he did not fight alone. He humbled himself and sought the prophet Isaiah (2 Kings 19:1–7). Isaiah spoke God’s word, interceded, and God sent an angel who destroyed the Assyrian army overnight (2 Kings 19:35). Accountability to spiritual authority guaranteed victory where military strength could not.
James reinforces this order: “Call for the elders of the church” in times of sickness and crisis (James 5:14). Some battles are too complex to fight alone. Yet many believers avoid spiritual accountability because of fear of financial responsibility. Scripture is clear: “The one who is taught the word is to share all good things with his teacher” (Galatians 6:6), and Paul instructed believers to give systematically to support God’s work (1 Corinthians 16:1–2).
Jesus affirmed this principle: “Whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones…will not lose his reward” (Matthew 10:42). The prophet’s reward is not manipulation—it is shared victory through joined faith. Battles are won when we stop standing alone and align with God’s appointed help.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and humility to be spiritually accountable.
PRAYER. Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome poverty and stagnation.
