Good -Life Devotional: THE ABUSE OF LEGISLATIVE PROCESSES ATTRACTS TERRORISM IN A NATION
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
The abuse of legislative processes is not a small matter before God. Scripture warns that when a nation’s laws are twisted for selfish gain, the door is opened for instability and violent oppression. Habakkuk lamented, “The law is slacked, and justice never prevails” (Habakkuk 1:4). When lawmakers manipulate justice to serve private interests rather than the common good, society becomes vulnerable. God responded to Judah’s corrupt leadership by raising the Chaldeans—ruthless invaders—as instruments of correction (Habakkuk 1:6–10). Verse 12 makes it clear: God sometimes allows oppressive forces to discipline nations that dishonor His order.
This principle remains true today. In many African nations, including Nigeria, legislative abuse and electoral failures have created systems where personal ambition overrides righteousness. James 3:16 (NLT) teaches, “Wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and every kind of evil.” When leaders pursue power rather than justice, chaos fills the vacuum, and terrorism thrives.
God’s Word sets a higher standard for those who rule: “He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God” (2 Samuel 23:3). Righteous leadership restrains evil, but corrupt leadership invites it. Proverbs 29:4 warns, “A king gives stability to the nation, but one who demands bribes destroys it.” Isaiah echoes the same truth: “Woe to those who make unjust laws” (Isaiah 10:1).
Yet hope remains. God calls His people to pray, repent, and demand righteousness. When justice is restored and leaders govern with the fear of God, peace returns. May we intercede for our nations, that His justice may prevail.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and a working godly electoral process.
PRAYER; Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome temptation.
