Good -Life Devotional:
IMPORTANCE OF SPIRITUAL ACCOUNTABILITY IN SPIRITUAL WARFARE
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
Spiritual warfare is never fought successfully in isolation. Scripture repeatedly reveals that God establishes spiritual accountability as a safeguard for victory, growth, and doctrinal stability. The experience of Job illustrates this truth vividly. Though righteous, Job lacked discernment in certain spiritual matters. He failed to recognize the role of Elihu, likely dismissing him because of age (Job 32:6–9). Elihu rightly taught that wisdom ultimately comes from God, not merely age, and his intervention exposed Job’s ignorance concerning spiritual defense.
Job assumed that offerings and benevolence could substitute for obedience and sound understanding (Job 1:5). Satan exploited this gap, bringing devastation to his possessions and children. God often places a person of authority in our lives as an instrument to teach obedience, humility, and truth. Even Jesus Christ, though fully divine, learned obedience in practice (Hebrews 5:8). His submission to John the Baptist for baptism (Matthew 3:13–15) did not diminish His deity, just as a state governor obeying traffic lights does not lose authority.
Preachers without spiritual accountability in doctrine frequently drift into error, a danger warned against in Hosea 4:6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Job’s suffering persisted until Elihu corrected him, and even Job’s friends were instructed to bring sacrifices to Job so he could pray for them (Job 42:7–9), underscoring that sacrifices outside God-ordained order lack validity.
Saul lost battles because he disregarded Samuel (1 Samuel 13:8–14). God promised, “I will give you shepherds after My own heart” (Jeremiah 3:15, AMP)—not self-appointed pastors, a practice condemned in 2 Timothy 4:3. The absence of spiritual accountability remains a root cause of spiritual decay and even bad governance, a reality evident in Nigeria today. True warfare victory flows from submission, obedience, and God-ordained accountability.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and humility to learn wisdom .
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to overcome the fear of untimely death.
