CHARACTERISTICS OF THE RELIGIOUS PROUD

   Religious pride is a subtle but dangerous sin that hinders true fellowship with God. Jesus illustrates this in Luke 18:11–12, where the Pharisee prayed, “God, I thank You that I am not like other people… I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I get.” This self-exalting attitude displeases God, for “He resists the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6, AMP). Here are some of the attributes of the religious proud:

SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS – They believe their good works make them righteous before God (Romans 10:3).

COMPARING THEMSELVES TO OTHERS – Like the Pharisee, they measure holiness by looking down on others (Luke 18:11).

BOASTING IN RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES – Pride manifests in public displays of fasting, tithing, or prayers for recognition (Matthew 6:1–5).

LACK OF REPENTANCE – They see no need to confess sins, claiming moral superiority (1 John 1:8).

DESPISING SINNERS – They shun and condemn those they deem less spiritual (Luke 7:39).

RESISTANCE TO GOD’S CORRECTION – Proud hearts reject rebuke and guidance from the Word (Proverbs 16:18).

SEEKING HUMAN PRAISE – Their devotion is driven by applause, not God’s glory (John 12:43).

TWISTING SCRIPTURE FOR SELF-JUSTIFICATION – Pride manipulates God’s Word to excuse wrongdoing (Mark 7:9).

HYPOCRISY – Outwardly holy but inwardly corrupt (Matthew 23:27–28).

FAILURE TO DEPEND ON GRACE – They trust in rituals instead of the saving power of Christ (Ephesians 2:8–9).

     Religious pride blinds the soul, making one an enemy of God. True righteousness comes only through humility and faith in Jesus, who said, “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted” (Luke 18:14).

In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and humility of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to be humble .
