Good -Life Devotional: MINISTERS OF THE NEW COVENANT
By Rev Michael Benson Ajayi
In 2 Corinthians 3:6, Paul affirms that God "has made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." This verse defends the sufficiency of every true believer, not by natural ability, but through the Holy Spirit. Our sufficiency (Greek: hikanóō – to make fit, enable, qualify) comes from God, who has anointed us to be His servants under the new covenant of grace and truth.
Jesus said in John 15:15, "I no longer call you servants... but friends, for everything I learned from My Father I have made known to you." This access to divine revelation is a mark of our calling and qualification. Furthermore, 1 John 2:27 affirms, “the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you.” The Greek word chrísma (anointing) points to the Holy Spirit’s empowering presence, equipping believers for ministry.
We are not lacking in grace or anointing. Ephesians 4:7 declares, “to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift.” This divine enablement is proportionate to Christ’s own generosity. Like the apostles in Acts 4:29, we must pray for boldness to speak the Word faithfully.
God has given all we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), and by the Spirit, we are competent ministers, filled, called, and empowered to proclaim Christ with confidence and power.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and boldness to preach the gospel.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and power to minister in your kingdom.
