THE ABOMINABLE EFFECTS OF A NATION NEGOTIATING WITH TERRORISTS — A BIBLICAL AND STRATEGIC ANALYSIS. ( PART 1)
By Michael Benson Ajayi
The Scriptures are clear that God forbids His people from forming alliances with violent and wicked nations. A profound example is found in 2 Chronicles 16, where King Asa of Judah negotiated with Ben-hadad of Syria, a hostile king who had repeatedly terrorized Israel (1 Kings 20). Instead of trusting in God, Asa took treasures from the Lord’s temple and used them to buy the cooperation of a violent leader. This compromise became the doorway to national decline. The Bible says in 2 Chronicles 16:9 "For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from HENCEFORTH THOU SHALT HAVE WARS."
Negotiation with terrorists results in an escalation of terrorism.
Today, many nations face the temptation to negotiate with terrorist groups. Yet the Bible and history warn of severe consequences. Below are some terrible effects of such negotiation―spiritually, politically, and socially.
1) . IT REPLACES TRUST IN GOD WITH TRUST IN VIOLENT MEN
Asa relied on Syria instead of the Lord (2 Chronicles 16:7–8).
2). IT STRENGTHENS TERRORISTS WITH NATIONAL RESOURCES
Asa handed God’s wealth to a violent king (2 Chronicles 16:2). Tax payers moneys is given to terrorists.
3.) IT PROVOKES GOD’S DISPLEASURE
The prophet rebuked Asa for relying on evil alliances (2 Chronicles 16:7).
4.) IT ENCOURAGES MORE VIOLENCE
Ben-hadad attacked immediately after receiving Asa’s gifts (2 Chronicles 16:4).
5). IT CREATES A CYCLE OF DEPENDENCE ON EVIL ALLIANCES
Asa began a pattern of fear-driven decisions.
6). IT SIGNALS WEAKNESS TO TERRORIST GROUPS
Violence appears to “work,” encouraging further attacks (Ecclesiastes 8:11).
7.) IT DEMORALIZES MILITARY AND SECURITY FORCES
Righteous defenders feel betrayed when their sacrifices are undermined. Seeing the killer of your colleagues sitting in a negotiation meeting is too for a soldier to stomach (.2 Samuel 19;1-8)
8). IT UNDERMINES THE RULE OF LAW
Justifying the wicked is an abomination to the Lord (Proverbs 17:15).
9) . IT ENCOURAGES YOUTH TO BECOME TERRORISTS
Young people admire the rewards given to violent men (Proverbs 1:10–19).
10). IT EMBOLDENS OTHER EVIL GROUPS
Terrorists imitate what they see rewarded.
In our daily prayers we should seek a healthy appetite for God's word and deliverance of our nation from bad governance.
PRAYER; Heavenly Father forgive me of my sins against you I believe Jesus Christ died and was raised again for my salvation I receive him as lord and saviour and receive the Holy Spirit and boldness to preach righteousness.
